Maximize Your Vacation Ownership
Tip #4
Oct 2009
Greetings!
Many owners express a frustration when trading with Interval International. In this issue and the next, I will discuss the steps to follow to make you more successful with your trading.

There are many wonderful Marriott timeshare properties to experience. Hopefully I can make the experience of getting to them less frustrating for you.
Take Control of Your Trade
Ocean Scene
Making a reservation at the property where you own is your first step whether you want to stay at your home resort or trade to go to another resort. Many owners just call Marriott or Interval International and state that they want to place a trade request. But what are you trading?

The word "trade" or "exchange" implies that you must give in return for something received. What is it you are giving in a timeshare trade? You are giving a week booked at your home resort. What week are you giving? Any week in your season that Marriott reserves for you unless you specifically select a week.

Not all weeks in your season have equal trading power. Some have high demand (ex. Canyon Villas in Phoenix in March), while others have low demand (ex. Canyon Villas in October). The stronger the demand, the easier it is to successfully trade to the resort you want and at the time you want.

Interval International compares the demand for the week you are trading to the demand for the week you are requesting. If the demand is similar, you have a good chance of successfully trading. If the demand for your week is lower, you may wait a long time to be confirmed or not get traded at all. This is because owners with higher demand weeks are leap-frogging you on the wait-list. If the demand for your week is higher, you have an excellent chance of being traded and quickly.

To find out the demand for the weeks in your season, consult the Travel Demand Index in the Interval International book or if you are a member of The Art of Vacationing website, the Weekly Trade Demand connected to each property.

Take control of your trade by booking your home resort during the highest-demanded weeks and you will find that trading with Interval can be a rewarding experience.
A Marriott owner's experience...
AoV Client We had been struggling to get the most out of our 3 Marriott timeshares, until we were introduced to The Art of Vacationing. We own at Marriott's Mountainside in Park City, Utah and called too late to reserve a ski week in March. We requested a trade with Interval International using an Aruba week that we had on deposit but had heard nothing for several months. We were referred to Pam Keystone by friends of ours who also owned with Marriott. Within two weeks of signing up with The Art of Vacationing and taking advantage of Pam's strategies, we were booked!

It has been very difficult for us to book 12 months in advance for prime ski weeks, so Pam also recommended and helped us purchase an inexpensive, resale Marriott property so that we can book 13 months in advance in future years.

Pam has fantastic inside knowledge of Marriott and Interval International and knows how to get the most out of their systems. She even got us in Marriott's OceanWatch in Myrtle Beach, using a bonus week, by checking the inventory every day.

Pam has very graciously spent a good deal of time strategizing with us for our planned trips to Aruba, Hawaii and Ireland.  Knowing that we are divers, she has even used her knowledge of prime Marriott properties to recommend Phuket and she is now arranging for us to spend 3 weeks in Aruba in 2010.

Pam is helping us see the world, much more easily and more cost efficiently than we ever thought possible.  She is a fabulous resource and critical to our vacation planning success.

Capri
The JW Marriott Capri Tiberio Palace Resort & Spa will leave the Marriott system as of November 16, 2009. This fabulous hotel located on the island of Capri was the only
Marriott hotel
on the Amalfi Coast and
one of the very few
Marriott hotels in Italy. Rome, Milan and Naples are the remaining cities with Marriott hotels. I have personally stayed at all of them so please
contact me if you have any questions.

Did you know...

that if you are short Marriott Rewards points for a reward, you can transfer points  from another Rewards account member at no cost? This could be from a family member, friend, work associate, etc. And you can buy up to 50,000 points per year for $12.50/1,000 points.

So, if you need points for a world trip, buy points for yourself, spouse, and children and then merge them into one account to book the reward trip. This is a great way to gain more points in a year without the upfront investment of another timeshare.
