Scoliosis

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is the medical term for curvature of the spine.

Scoliosis occurs in approximately 2% of women and less than 1/2% of men. It usually starts in the early teens or pre-teens and may gradually progress as rapid growth occurs. Once rapid growth (puberty) is over then mild curves often do not change while severe curves nearly always progress.

Curves are measured in degrees and persons with curves measuring under thirty degrees entering adulthood are considered having a mild curve while those over 60 degrees are considered severe.

I had a pronounced scoliosis which I had been aware of since I was about 9 years old. The doctors said that there was nothing I could do about it. I thought uneven leg lengths may also have contributed to the severity...Read more...

  Canvasland

My name is Chuck Voelter, I'm a professional artist who has always made his own canvas stretchers, usually because I simply couldn't afford to purchase the really large ones I needed. Over the years my carpentry skills developed and I also got a BFA in painting. The design and build of my stretcher bars evolved over time inspired by a variety of sources but always of a better quality than I thought I could afford. When I started selling a lot of paintings, I realized that I spent as much time making supports as making the image itself. I wondered if I could create a production line using my techniques and be my own best, first customer. Using my limited Excel skills I soon realized that I could make it work. I'll soon be offering my handmade frame design to artists all over the country and beyond. They can be raw or finished with water-based polyurethane, stretched with traditional primed or non-primed cotton duck or, extremely earth-friendly hemp canvas. The priming of hemp canvas is different than cotton and we're doing the experiments and research to make sure they're as correct as possible for the demanding taste of artists like, well, me! It is Feb. 8th and the official launch target is again today! Please bookmark the URL and check back then for a complete price list, details about the construction of the products, etc. We look forward to providing you with museum-quality supports for the duration of your painting career.
