Testimonials

I just want to say Thank You so very much for all of your help and resources. I must have called a dozen referral places before I was blessed with you. None have even called me back as of yet. You really given us hope, direction, and encouragement when we were ready to have to figure out another option. I wasn't too sure of how my God sent non biological son was going to respond to some of those long, much needed programs. After researching the websites you gave me, He was actually feeling Empowered and like he had hope for a better future. I only hope his enthusiasm stays for a while...Or at least until we get him into one of the programs.
You are an amazing woman with a heart for helping others. I know this only because I too have a similar one. Don't want to write a mini novel (Lol), but needed you to know that you are appreciated and a blessing from God.

Please keep in touch.
- a VERY grateful Mom...Michelle

I am writing to tell you and your staff that you all are the BEST! I wrote you earlier about my friend Barbara wanting and needing help and you went through channels to get her help....

We received the information you gave us and they have a bed opening today and are going to accept her into the program within the hour!  Thank you and God bless you for your unconditional support of people with problems and not giving up on them.
Sincerely,
- Pamela

I just wanted to write in and talk about the owner of Outreach Services Debbie Norton.  I have known Debbie for more than 8 years and have personally witnessed in my own life as well as many others her dedication and compassionate heart for people struggling with addiction.

I first met Debbie when entering a treatment program many years ago.  I was scared and lost and had nowhere left to turn.  She went over and beyond the normal call of duty to make sure I got the help I needed.  I truly believe my life changed as direct result of the hands stretched out to me on that day.   I worked with her then later in the field of addiction and witnessed her dedication in the lives of many other addicts and there families.

She continues to strive towards reaching a greater public at Outreach Services and DARS. She has staff that follow in her footsteps to help families and addicts to find hope for a new and better life.

Thanks Deb!

Our community and so many other communities need to know about your services.  Click here or on the links to the left to add your services to our resource list.  In the next year, our goal is to have quality treatment center resources in every state.

We currently have a network of resources that help individuals with private insurance, private pay, Medicare, Tricare, low-cost residential-extended care, hospital detox, social model detox, dual-diagnosis, and more, but not in every state.  We don't want to refer to programs we don't know and that aren't eager to help our clients.  We want to know that those facilities we refer to, are providing the care that is required to succeed in recovery.

Help us help all those in need with the right treatment program that meets their needs. With your resources, we will then be able to provide services with every level of care to our clients.

Add your services to our network and let's setup a time to discuss the best way to network these services and to expand our services where they are needed.  Join us in affordable networking opportunities that make sense.

Outreach Services & DARS - in the spirit of recovery month is donating time and services to Out of the Darkness Community Walks! WALK TO SAVE LIVES... It is estimated that an attempt is made every minute; with close to one million people attempting suicide annually. With your participation, you will not just be walking, and your donors will not just be writing a check - you will be helping to save lives.

Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention walk in our local community. Click here to register or donate today.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walks are 3-5 mile walks taking place in over 200 communities across the country this fall, with the proceeds benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). By walking in the Out of the Darkness Community Walks, you will be walking with thousands of other walkers nationwide to raise money for AFSP's vital research and education programs to prevent suicide and save lives, increase national awareness about depression and suicide and provide support for survivors of suicide loss. In deciding to walk you are taking us a step closer to making suicide prevention a national priority.

Our community of Mariposa and Merced has very few resources to offer those in need of recovery and we are reaching out to you our readers to support us in providing those resources.  Click on the links to the left to share your resources with us and we will share it with our community and our nationwide call center.

Study Finds Correlation between Rapid Rise in Unemployment and Alcohol Abuse
A rapid rise in unemployment can be linked to an increase in suicides, homicides, and alcohol abuse, according to a recent study reported in the "Lancet" medical journal.  The study, "The public health effect of economic crisis and alternative policy responses in Europe: an empirical analysis," found that a rise of 3 percent in unemployment is associated with a 28 percent increase in deaths from alcohol abuse and a 4.5 percent increase in suicides in the population younger than age 65.  Further, each percent increase in unemployment raised suicide rates by 0.8 percent and homicide rates by 0.8 percent.

Because of widespread concern that the present economic crisis, particularly its effect on unemployment, will adversely affect population health, the research team investigated how economic changes have affected mortality rates over the past three decades in European Union countries. The research team, which is comprised of researchers from the University of California, San Francisco; University of Oxford, and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, also identified government actions that could modify the health effects of economic stability.  The proposed solution from the researchers, a government program which would help unemployed people quickly enter new jobs or retain work, may be effective at preventing a rise in deaths, including those related to alcohol abuse, during recession.

Using data from the World Health Organization and the International Labor Organization, the researchers analyzed more than 50 causes of death in 26 EU countries between 1970 and 2007 and compared the results to unemployment data. They also examined the different levels of government social spending during the same period, taking into account other factors that might affect rising death rates, such as population aging and the different ways that countries monitor employment rates and causes of death.  The stress of recessions, particularly of unemployment, seemed to markedly increase rates of death from intentional violence, with women particularly affected by homicide and men by suicide, according to study results.

"Suicides are just the tip of the iceberg" said lead author David Stuckler, PhD, of the University of Oxford and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.  "Rising suicide rates are a sign of many failed suicide attempts and high levels of mental distress among workers and families."
Employers need to be aware that workers often turn to alcohol during times of stress and need to be aware of the signs of alcohol abuse.  Working Partners provides information about addiction in the workplace as well as tips for what a co-worker can do if substance abuse is suspected.
