National Polling Summary
Welcome to the Anzalone Liszt Research National Polling Summary, a quick look at national public polls detailing key political environment measures as well as attitudes of voters on the pressing issues of the week.  We hope that this summary will be helpful to you and your clients.

The Energy Bill passed the House this week and initial numbers are encouraging on how voters view the basic tenets of the plan - regulating greenhouse gases and cap and trade.  Attitudes on Obama's healthcare plan is still unformed for most voters, with only 22% saying they have heard or seen a lot of Obama's plan.  This leaves nearly one-third of all voters without an opinion about the plan itself at this time.  In short, we are in only the second inning of the Health Care game but with over 60% of people feeling that the healthcare system needs a major overhaul, the time is right to play the game out

Happy Fourth of July,

ABC/ Wash Post:There's a proposed system called 'cap and trade.' The government would issue permits limiting the amount of greenhouse gases companies can put out. Companies that did not use all their permits could sell them to other companies. The idea is that many companies would find ways to put out less greenhouse gases, because that would be cheaper than buying permits. Would you support or oppose this system? CNN/ ORC: A proposal called 'cap and trade' would allow the federal government to limit the emissions from industrial facilities such as power plants and factories that some people believe cause global warming. Companies that exceed the limit could avoid fines or higher taxes by paying money to other companies that produced fewer emissions than allowed. Would you favor or oppose this proposal?

The plan requires that health insurance companies cover people with pre-existing medical conditions. It also requires all but the smallest employers to provide health coverage for their employees, or pay a percentage of their payroll to help fund coverage for the uninsured. Families and individuals with lower - and middle-incomes would receive tax credits to help them afford insurance coverage. Some of the funding for this plan would come from raining taxes on wealthier Americans. Do you favor or oppose this plan?
