Vintage Handmade Heriz Carpet
11 ft. 8 in. x 8 ft. 6 in.

Heriz carpets are Persian - hand woven in the area of Heris,
in northwest Iran. Extremely durable and hard-wearing, a Heriz carpet can last for generations; in part the result of geography, as the slopes of Heriz lie directly on top of a large deposit of copper. Traces of copper in the drinking water of the sheep is said to produce wool that is far more resilient than wool from other areas. Look for a large, centered medallion dominating the field. The designs are traditional and often woven from memory.

Vintage Handmade Kerman Carpet
17 ft.8 in. x 9 ft 7 in.

Kerman carpets are woven by hand in and around the city of the same name in southeastern Iran. Marco Polo once praised their brilliant and varied palette and their light colors. Today, these distinctive, high grade carpets are said to be the truest Persian carpet designs; the arts in and around the settlements of Kerman having been least influenced  by centuries of invading tribes. Intricate, repeated floral motifs are most typical. (Did you know Kerman also produces the best pistachios in the world?)
