"Hussey Street"signed lower right 15 ½ in. x 19 in. Yates studied at Wake
Forest College
and the University
of Chicago where he
received a divinity degree. He served in
the First World War in France,
and was the army's head chaplain before retiring in 1935. It appears that he had no formal art
training, but pursued his interests in capturing real life events on canvas.
