Alumni night in Israel
On the Tuesday night after Rosh Hashana, over 40 YSMZ alumni living in Israel joined the Yeshiva for an evening of Torah, Shmoozing, and delicious food (of course). Each Alumnus was paired off with a pair of current Mevaseret Talmidim for a chaburah session. After the session, all the alumni were addressed by Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Shimon Isaacson, followed by an engaging shiur from Rav Yedidya Berzon.

Aliyah to Ginot Shomron

The Yishuv of Ginot Shomron, bordering Karnei Shomron and Neve Aliza was established in 1984.
Ginot Shomron, just a 20 minute drive east of Tel Aviv has stunning views and over 850 families. It is no coincidence that 5 of these families are Alumni of YSMZ! Ginot, as it is commonly referred, is a "very friendly, American Style community with a very good and wide selection of education. We also have a very nice Mevaseret family already here" exclaims YSMZ Alum, Avigdor Fuld.
YSMZ is extremely proud of its Alumni who have made Aliyah with their families. There is an extra sense of pride for those who choose to live in the Yishuvim staking our claim to our land against enemies sworn to destroy us. As Ginot resident and YSMZ alum Yishai Mendelsohn emphatically declared "I like guns, so it was either Ginot or Texas." One thing all 5 alumni have in common are the smiles on their faces, they are all thrilled about the priviledge of living in Israel and invite all fellow alumni to come visit and spend a Shabbat in Ginot with their families. | YSMZ Alumni who live in Ginot Shmoron joined us for the "Alumni in Israel Night". Alumni Rabbonim Some of our esteemed alumni have recently received positions as community Rabbis. We are thrilled to see their success and choice of professions. We feature some of them in this section.
Rabbi Asher klein -D.A.T. Minyan on Denver
After learning in Mevaseret, Rabbi Klein pursued a degree in accounting and rabbinical ordination from Yeshiva University. He taught Judaic studies in the Moriah School in Englewood, NJ, and in Manhattan Day School. Afterwards, he assumed a position as assistant rabbi at Congregation AABJ&D in West Orange, NJ, where he helped found "West Orange Encounters," an adult education program geared toward engaging Jews with limited Judaic background.
Rabbi Klein says that "the first time he visited Denver, we were overwhelmed by the warmth of the DAT Minyan community and the level of engagement and excitement over the opportunity to grow and strengthen the modern Orthodox and wider Jewish community in Denver.
Rabbi Klein is married to Dr. Jessica Klein, DDS. They have three children, Eli, Dani and Sruli.
He has a passion for music and plays a number of instruments.

Rabbi Yoni Gross-Congregation Beth Hamedrosh-Wynnewood, Pennsylvania
Rabbi Gross previously served as the Rabbi of the Young Israel of Phoenix. During his two and a half years in Phoenix, the shul nearly tripled its membership and became both a programming center for the Greater Phoenix Community and a welcoming home for all Jews.
Prior to his position in Phoenix, Rabbi Gross acted as the Senior Rabbinic Intern at the Riverdale Jewish Center under the guidance of Rabbi Jonathan Rosenblatt. He completed special study in the area of Taharas HaMishpacha, the laws of family purity, through The Puah Institute for Medicine & Fertility in Accordance with Halacha. Rabbi Gross also interned as a chaplain at the Zicklin Hospice in Riverdale, dealing with end of life issues both halachicly as well as pastorally.
A native of Queens, New York, Rabbi Gross was educated through the Yeshiva Day School system, attended Mevaseret, Yeshiva University High School and College, and received rabbinic ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS). While a student at RIETS, he studied under Rav Herschel Schachter, Rav Mordechai Willig and Rav Zvi Sobolofsky.
Rabbi Dovid Asher
Rabbi, Keneseth Beth Israel
Richmond, Virginia
After Dovid studied for 2 years in Yeshivat Shaarei Mevaseret Tzion, he then returned to Yeshiva University where he received a B.S. in psychology with a minor in business. He then completed Smicha in RIETS.
Rav Dovid told us that Rabbi life is hard but good. Some highlights include being a Sandek for his Mispallelim's Britot. He feels uplifted as he gets to hold a beautiful baby boy and make an important connection to a family who has had little interaction with Torah Judaism. Rav Asher also had the oppurtunity to share the pulpit for a speech by his famous and esteemed congregant, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. Rav Asher has represented Torah Judaism on a number of panels with other religious figures discussing many issues, including the question of whether we subjugate women. Some of the challenges Rav Asher faces include dealing with the weight of a community on his shoulders and trying to "know everything you have to know when you have to know it." He also has to figure out a way to find time to relax. |
Alumni Shabbaton with Rav Mordechai Burg in Queens.
More than 35 Alumni joined Rav Mordechai Burg for a Shabbaton in Congregation Etz Chaim in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens. The Ruach, singing and Divrei Torah brought back our Alumni to their memories of their time in Mevaseret. Our alumni joined the members of the Shul for a moving and inspiring Seudat Shlishit, where Rav Burg gave a beautiful Dvar Torah.
Thank you to Rabbi Rosenberg and the entire Congregation Etz Chaim for their warm hospitality over the entire Shabbat. Much thanks to Avromy Elberger,Shai Kopitnikoff and Michael Goldman for all their efforts in setting up the Shabbaton.
