Prince William, VA (July 20, 2011) - The Prince William County Park Authority, in partnership with the Field of Dreams, Inc, proudly announces the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Miracle League of Prince William County universal field at Hellwig Memorial Park, located at 14420 Bristow Road, Manassas, VA, 20112, on Saturday, July 30th, 10:00am.  Members of two of the Little League Challenger Division teams, in Prince William County, will hold an exhibition game immediately following the ceremony.  

The Miracle League is a non-profit organization that provides an opportunity for children with special needs to play baseball.  Each child is given the opportunity to hiit the ball and to score a run during each inning.    One of the most positive aspects of a Challenger Division is a volunteer program that uses "buddies" during play. A buddy can be a Little League Baseball player, friend, brother or sister, relative or even a parent. Buddies help assist their Challenger partner on the field with any aspect of the game.  

A universal field is designed to certain specifications, including paving and installation of rubber turf.  In addition, for safety assurance, the field must be entirely accessible, including dugouts, bathrooms and enclosures.  The field's dimensions match those of a regular, youth-size baseball field.   

The Miracle League of Prince William County has garnered support from Dr. Richard Tami, Director,  Field of Dreams, Inc. The Hylton Group, Chuck Leopold and family, and L. Scott Lingamfelter, Delegate, 31st District, Virginia House of Delegates.
