December in the Cloister Gallery Joan G. Cox
Though Joan Cox has worked most of her artistic life in oils, her passion for painting has led her to incorporate a number of other materials in her work. More recently she has worked extensively in acrylics. She has also designed and assisted in fabricating eight stained glass windows. Her work has been deeply informed by landscape, though she is not a plein air painter. Her renditions of a favorite countryside are more about a sense of the place than about any particular scene. Layering and building up surfaces has become a rather consistent feature of her pieces. Her almost decade-long adventure into abstraction and recent return to partial representation has resulted in some particularly evocative images. Among the works on view during the December exhibition at The House of Hope are pieces from a series on the migration of birds. Meet Joan and enjoy coffee in the Cloister Gallery after the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, December 12.

Stewardship Sunday for the 2011 Stewardship Drive will be January 23, 2011
Stewardship is everyone's opportunity to contribute toward the operating budget that covers all church activities in a calendar year. The exciting capital campaign is raising funds for the much-needed repair and updating of the church facilities; it does not cover operating costs. Please make your annual stewardship pledge in January to support the worship, education and mission programs of the church, and all of the wonderful programs that are regularly highlighted in the newsletter and church bulletins. We can be proud of the good work this church accomplishes within these walls and out in the world, all supported by our Stewardship pledges. |

Children's Pageant and Advent Celebration December 5
On Sunday, December 5, the children's annual Christmas pageant will be presented immediately following the 10 a.m. worship service in the Sanctuary. This is a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit as we see the Christmas through the eyes and voices of our children. Come Home for Christmas
The Advent Celebration will be held immediately following the Children's Pageant on December 5. Please join everyone in the Great Hall for lunch, followed by crafts that will add a festive Christmas spirit to your home. As we celebrate what it means to be 'Home' for Christmas, families can make personal keepsakes that are sure to become a cherished part of one's family collection. Create a hand-print Christmas tree wall hanging made by you and your family members, traditional pine bough swags, and even a nativity scene with the Holy Family. And it wouldn't be the Advent Celebration without cookies decorated by you and your family. For more information and registration details, please look for sign-up tables on Sundays or contact Jan Snell, 651-223-7547 or jans@hohchurch.org. Cost is $5 per person or $20 per household. Adult Gathering, Christmas Dinner Party
December 17 6:30 p.m.
Attention, All House of Hope Adults (Singles and Couples, New and Long-term Members and Friends): Plan to join us for the Annual House of Hope Christmas Party at the Midland Hills Country Club in Roseville. The party has been moved to a Friday evening, so it won't conflict with the many Sunday Advent events at church, and so baby sitters won't have school the next morning. The evening begins with a social time followed by dinner, carol-singing and entertainment. We are delighted that we'll be hearing about Christmas from a number House of Hope friends again this year and Aaron David Miller will be providing music. Sign up and pay in the church office by Tuesday, December 14. Or sign up and pay outside the Kirk Parlour after Sunday worship. The cost is $45 per person.
