Capital Campaign
campaign logo

The campaign pew cards give everyone an opportunity to express the importance of House of Hope in your life.  Inspiring words from a pew card returned recently give a glimpse of the importance of our church in one member's life:  "As a single woman whose family lives in another state, House of Hope is my extended family with whom I can interact many times a week.  It's where I have formed some of my closest friendships over the years."

On the pew card, you can also indicate your readiness to make a gift to OUR HOPE FOR YEARS TO COME
campaign.  To date, the campaign has received 168 gifts for a total of $4,474,720.  The campaign depends upon all of us who are connected by our church and to each other.  Let the campaign hear from you today by returning a pew card.

Living the Questions: Developments in Religious Thought and Practice November 3, 10 and 17, 7 p.m.
Looking for a chance to grow in your understanding of your faith in a small group discussion format?  Living the Questions is a video-based discussion series for adults which will be held on three Wednesday evenings, November 3, 10 and 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Kirk Parlour.  An open-minded alternative to studies that attempt to give all the answers, Living the Questions strives instead to create an environment where participants can interact with one another in exploring what's next for Christianity.  Featuring a DVD presentation of scholars, theologians and current cultural leaders, this series may be just the thing to expand your theological understandings.  Contact Rev. Tom Forster-Smith at tomf@hohchurch.org, or call him at 651 223-7553 for further information.

We have 80 family profiles, large and small, and will have them available for your sponsorship November 7 and 14, after worship in the Kirk Parlour. You will have until December 8 to complete your shopping. If you have any questions please contact Jane & Paul Schluter at (h) 952-922-2197 or schluter@myinfmail.com

Great Decisions November 16

On Tuesday, November 16, at 7 p.m. in the Church Library we will discuss Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution.
U.S. campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan have shown that military force alone cannot ensure peace in all conflicts. How can the U.S. successfully integrate the tools of peacebuilding into its statecraft? At what point do poverty, disease and climate change threaten national security? What role can non-governmental actors play in supporting government- led efforts? The speaker will be Richard Virden, who retired from the U.S. State Department in 2004 with the rank of Minister-Counselor. His assignments abroad included postings in Brazil, Poland, Thailand Portugal, Romania and Vietnam. He is a graduate of the War College and taught there for two years.
Great Decisions is a discussion group for U.S. foreign policy issues, based on topics suggested by the Foreign Policy Association. For more information please call the church office, 651-227-6311.

Taking Root - Interfaith Immigrant Support Program
Hai Paw and his family are just one of many families coming to the Twin Cities Metro looking for a safe, welcoming place in which to raise their children and be given the opportunity to flourish.  Hai is 80 years old and is arriving on November 9 along with his daughter Moo Kree Paw, 23 years old,  her husband Hser Nay Moo, 21 years old and their two-year old daughter.  The family is originally from Burma and have been living in a refugee camp in Thialand. They speak the Karen language and are members of the Presbyterian Church.
Taking Root, a program of the Minnesota Council of Churches is looking for individuals interested in joining an interfaith team along with our Muslim neighbors to support families like Hai Paw's.  We are looking for people who are available during day, in the evening, or on weekends.  Team members will help by driving the family to appointments, helping them get to know their community, or making them feel welcome.
Matthew 25:31-40 tells us that we are called feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give drink to the thirsty, and visit the sick and imprisoned. In verse 40 Jesus tells us, "Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."  Please consider answering the call to serve those who are simply looking for a safe, welcoming place.  You will also be given the unique opportunity to get to know our neighbors of a different faith.
The House of Hope Deacons' Community Service Committee has endorsed our participation in this project.
For more information, or to volunteer for this program, please contact Lynea Geinert at the Minnesota Council of Churches:
lynea.geinert@mnchurches.org or 612-230-3243.
