Choir School Registration
Make a Joyful Noise with the House of Hope Choir School! All children are welcome to participate in this unique music education program which includes 6 choirs, voice training, music theory, performance and worship. Registration for new and returning choristers (grades 1-12) will be held Wednesday September 1 from 3-6 p.m. in the Choir Room. Choristers ages 4-6 can register by contacting the Choir

Literature Series
Resumes
September 9
Joy Davis' "First Thursday Literature Series" will meet September 9 instead of the 2nd because of early Labor Day. We will meet in the church library at 10:15 a.m. to discuss poems by Billy Collins, one of the authors attending the Faith and Writing event on October 2. These poems appear in his book Questions About Angels.
The group's discussion of Sarah Orne Jewett's The White Heron will take place at the usual first Thursday, October 7.

Seeking Officer Candidates
The Nominating Committee
is meeting to prepare a slate of officers (elders, deacons and
trustees), who will begin to serve in January 2011. Additionally, a
2011 Nominating Committee slate will be prepared. The slate will be
elected by the Congregation in November. Nomination forms are available

National Night Out TONIGHT, August 3
 House of Hope again will host a neighborhood National Night Out event tonight in the Portland Avenue parking lot and park. Sherwood Pomeroy will be at the grill, Bonnie Alton will whip up PB&J sandwiches, Todd and Leslie Erickson will bring their Photo Booth, Sheltered Reality will provide music, and there will be lots of activities for the kids. Come out and meet the neighbors and our friends in the police, fire, and search & rescue professions. Help make this a safe neighborhood for all who live, work, worship and play here. Neighborhood businesses have provided treats, prizes, services, and financial support for this neighborhood get-together. Events begin at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome! |

Behind the Scenes Tour August 8
 Go behind the Scenes with the Capital Campaign Steering Committee on Sunday, August 8. Immediately following the worship service, gather at the Welcome Center by the Cloister Art Gallery. Doug Wakefield will lead tours of the Bell Tower, the Basement and interesting points in between. The tour will provide an up-close and personal look at some of the potential areas of renovation being considered as part of our Capital Campaign.

St. Paul Classic Bike Tour September 12
 The annual Classic Bike Tour starts at the University of St. Thomas at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 12, and follows Mississippi River Boulevard, Shepherd Road, and various routes through St. Paul. The short route includes Summit Avenue from Grand Hill to the River Boulevard. Traffic will be allowed on Summit Avenue, but drivers should be alert for bicyclists. Other roads will be closed to traffic in the direction of the tour. For details, maps, and schedules click here. |

 Mark your
calendar for the September 12 Summit Hill House Tour, from 12 noon to 6 p.m.
The House of Hope Church and Manse will be part of the tour. Two shifts of volunteers are needed (11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.) at the church entrance,
Cloister Gallery, Sanctuary, and Kirk Parlour, to act as hosts. We will
provide brief scripts which will offer information about the church and

 Adult members of the congregation will gather in The Great River Ballroom at the Crowne Plaza St. Paul Riverfront Hotel as we kick-off the Capital Campaign with an evening of fellowship and celebration. In addition to House of Hope leadership, Rev. Dr. John Buchanan, pastor of the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago, editor and publisher of The Christian Century magazine, will provide remarks about the recent campaign at Fourth Presbyterian Church. New Choirmaster Matthew Culloton
The Choirmaster Search Committee is pleased to announce that Matthew Culloton has been appointed as Choirmaster at The House of Hope. Matthew Culloton is the Founding Artistic Director and Conductor of The Singers - Minnesota Choral Artists. He also is adjunct faculty member at the University of Saint Thomas in St. Paul. From 1999-2004, Matthew was a member of The Dale Warland Singers, having served as Music Adviser and Assistant Conductor to Dale Warland.
In November 2004, Matthew was presented with the Minnesota American Choral Directors Association Outstanding Young Choral Conductor of the Year Award. In the fall of 2003, he was the recipient of the VocalEssence/ACDA Creative Programming Award for his work at Hopkins High School.
He is co-editor of the Matthew and Michael Culloton Choral Series with Santa Barbara Publishing Company. His music is published by Santa Barbara Music Publishing, Hinshaw Music, Mark Foster Music (Shawnee), Kjos Music, and Graphite Publishing.
Matthew holds degrees from Concordia College, Moorhead (BM) and the University of Minnesota (MM). He is currently completing coursework towards a DMA in Conducting at the University of Minnesota.
Matthew resides in Minneapolis with his wife Melissa and Charlie the Beagle.

The House of Hope Presbyterian Church, St. Paul, Minnesota, has an immediate opening for a full-time Director of Youth Ministry. The Director of Youth Ministry will be responsible for overseeing the high school and middle school ministry (6th - 12th grades), including establishing and maintaining an effective and smoothly-running program. The Director will be responsible for recruiting, coordinating and training congregation members to teach and provide program assistance. The Director of Youth Ministry will be actively engaged in the lives of the church's youth.
Experience/Education:
° BA or BS degree preferred
° Prior experience working with a Christian youth program
° Education or training in Christian Education
° Oral, written and social networking communication skills

Job Support Group
The Big Net connects job seekers with opportunities and resources supporting their transition. Every Thursday, job seekers meet to share experiences and support each another (4 to 5 p.m. Job Support Group; 5 to 6 p.m. Informal Meeting and Assistance). Your sharing of job openings is very helpful to the participants. Individual assistance is available, including resumé review, cover letters, networking, business plan review, coaching, mentoring, interview practice, among other requests, as well as encouragement. Two
seminars, highlighting speakers on topics of interest to job seekers and
others, are held monthly on the second and fourth Tuesdays, from 7
