Summer Carillon
Recital Continues
July 25
The 2010 SUMMER CARILLON RECITAL SERIES continues Sunday, July 25, at 4 p.m., with a recital by John Widmann (Frederick, Maryland). John is City Carillonneur of the Joseph Dill Baker Carillon for the City of Frederick, where he plays weekly recitals and hosts a summer recital series. He teaches music in the Frederick Public Schools, is a church organist and has worked in the financial services industry. John attained Carillonneur status in the GCNA in 2006 and has performed recitals throughout the United States and Canada. He last performed at House of Hope in 2002.
Carillon recitals can be heard from the church lawns. Bring a blanket or chair, your family and friends, and a picnic lunch to enjoy while you listen to the lovely sounds of the Noyes Memorial Carillon. If weather proves uncooperative, there are always comfortable locations inside where the recitals can be heard.

Doug Nielsen
Doug Nielsen has been in the art and picture framing business for 33 years. As an artist, he has studied the work of the masters, old and current, with special interest in the American Impressionists of the late 1800's to the 1930's. His work will be on display through July 25.

Member Retrospective
In August, church members will have the opportunity to display up to 3 pieces of art that they have previously shown in the Gallery. Please bring your artwork to the Bridal Room before or after the church service on July 25. Pieces should be picked up on Sunday, August 29. Kirk Club July 25
 The Kirk Club will meet at 12 noon on Sunday, July 25, at the Lexington Restaurant on Grand at Lexington. Our guest will be long-time House of Hope member Ed Clapp, Brigadier General Retired, who will talk about his experiences in the army JAG corps. Freedom School Dinner July 29
 Kwanzaa Community Church in North Minneapolis provides Afro-centric reading enrichment and cultural education through its Freedom School each summer. The students, who are in grade school and high school, are given breakfast and lunch five days a week during the six-week program. For many of the kids, these are the only meals available to them for the day. House of Hope will provide and serve a chicken dinner for the 65-75 students and their families on Thursday, July 29. Set-up begins at 4:30 p.m.; dinner and the program begin at 6 at 3700 Bryant Avenue N. If you can help, contact Mary Cardinal Peterson at petecardfive@q.com or 651-341-7173. If you can't help on July 29, donations of breakfast, lunch and snack foods as well as Cub and Sam's Club gift cards are greatly appreciated. Bring food donations to church any Sunday in July and leave them in the "Kwanzaa" boxes at the table outside of the chapel. |

Holy Communion August 1
 The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated at the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, August 1. In the Presbyterian Church (USA) all baptized persons, including children, are invited to participate in the sacrament. The elements served will be bread and grape juice. Gluten free wafers will be available. |

National Night Out August 3
 House of Hope again will host a neighborhood National Night Out event on August 3 in the Portland Avenue parking lot and park. Set-up starts at 4 p.m., clean-up begins at 9. Sherwood Pomeroy will be at the grill, Bonnie Alton will whip up PBandJ sandwiches, the Ericksons will bring their Photo Booth, and Sheltered Reality will provide music. Volunteers are needed for set-up, activities, hosting, clean-up, and more. Donations of store-bought* cakes for the cake walk, cupcakes and bars will be accepted Sunday, August 1, before and after worship; in the church office on August 2 and 3; and at the event itself. Come out and meet the neighbors and make this a safe neighborhood for all who live, work, worship and play here. Behind the Scenes Tour August 8
 Go behind the Scenes with the Capital Campaign Steering Committee on Sunday, August 8. Immediately following the worship service, gather at the Welcome Center by the Cloister Art Gallery. Doug Wakefield will lead tours of the Bell Tower, the Basement and interesting points in between. The tour will provide an up-close and personal look at some of the potential areas of renovation being considered as part of our Capital Campaign.

 House of Hope offers something for everyone. Check out our educational, benevolent, volunteer, artistic, and spiritually enriching programs, as well as opportunities for fellowship and friendship for all ages. On Rally Sunday morning, September 12, wander among the exhibit tables and talk to enthusiastic people who will be happy to tell you all about the projects that inspire and motivate them. Tables will be located near the Kirk Parlour and in the Cloister Gallery. |

House of Hope on Home Tour
 Mark your
calendar for the September 12 Summit Hill Home Tour, from 1 to 5 p.m.
The House of Hope Church and Manse will be part of the tour. We are in
need of 8 volunteers, 4 each for 2 hours--at the church entrance,
Cloister Gallery, Sanctuary, and Kirk Parlour, to act as hosts. We will
provide brief scripts which will offer information about the church and
