Baptism Class
June 6
Baptism Class provides parents with information about the sacrament and its purpose, and is another way for the church to support and encourage families. New or prospective parents may attend a class on
Sunday, June 6, at 9 a.m. in the Church Library. Please call Michelle Freyholtz at 651-223-7556 to schedule your baby's Baptism and to register for the class. A Baptism class is offered each quarter and is a prerequisite for Baptism. Baptism is ordinarily celebrated on the third Sunday of the month.

Jeremiah Program
June 10
Cook for Kids
The Jeremiah program offers affordable housing, life skills education, empowerment training and early childhood education to women while they live on the Jeremiah campus and complete post-secondary education.
On Tuesday and Thursday evenings, volunteers cook and serve a meal to Jeremiah residents after Moms attend Life Skills classes. House of Hope volunteers will Cook on Thursday, June 10. Holy Communion
June 13
The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated on Sunday,
June 13, at 10 a.m. worship. In the Presbyterian Church (USA) all baptized persons, including children, are welcome to participate in Holy Communion.

Ice Cream Social
June 13
Celebrate summer at the annual ice cream social following worship on Sunday, June 13. We will enjoy ice cream, fellowship and dixieland jazz on the Summit Avenue lawn. Bring your friends!

Kirk Club June 27
The Kirk Club will meet on Sunday, June 27, at 12 noon at the Lexington Restaurant (on Grand at Lexington in St. Paul). The special guest will be Rev. Mary McNamara, President of United Theological Seminary, who will be introduced by Dr. David Van Dyke. Please make reservations with the church office,

out at House of Hope and meet more people. We're looking for men and women who want to be ushers, either on a regular ushering team or by joining our substitute list.
If you've been an usher already, you know the drill. If you've never ushered, it's easy and we'll train you. If this interests you or you have questions, please contact either Usher Co-chair Don Vandenberg at dsvandenberg1737@yahoo.com

Remember, you don't need to be a deacon to be an usher.

Joshua Cunningham"My primary pursuit has become painting the landscape, but really it is a foil for an endless variety of light and subject. The light is always fleeting and I find myself defending the painting against mercurial skies and the constant march of the sun. The world rotates with the same speed at noon as it does at sunset, and so it isn't long before I am painting from memory. The intensity of painting from life and memory serves me when I return to the studio; my field studies bring me back to the scene. I am captivated with what I see, what I hear, what I smell, what I feel in the air, and what the scene evokes from my life."

Dedication of Labyrinth May 30
Following the 10 a.m. worship service on May 30, everyone is invited to the dedication of The House of Hope Labyrinth. Walking the labyrinth is an ancient form of meditative Christian prayer. Ours is located behind the Meeting House (761 Summit) and is open to the public as a sign of the church's hospitality and connection to the community. Landscaping is planned to create a setting of welcome and comfort. House of Hope member Peter Kruse, with his fellow Boy Scouts and House of Hope volunteers, built the labyrinth as part of Peter's Eagle Scout project.

Joann Lee is Nominee for Associate Pastor
The Associate Pastor Nominating Committee is pleased to present Reverend Joann Lee as our nominee for election as Associate Pastor for Family and Young Adult Ministries. Joann is a graduate of McCormick Theological Seminary, Master of Divinity program and is currently Pastoral Resident at Fourth Presbyterian Church, Chicago, Illinois. Additional details about Joann and her family can be found in the brochure that will be mailed to all members and is available in the church office or on our website. Please attend the worship service on Sunday, June 6, 2010 to hear Joann preach and stay for the congregational meeting to vote. Following the congregational meeting a reception with refreshments will be held on the Church lawn.
Pending her election by the congregation on June 6, Joann will be presented for membership into the Twin Cities Area Presbytery in July with a service of installation to be scheduled in the fall. It is anticipated that Joann will begin work at The House of Hope on August 23.
The committee wishes to thank the congregation for your support and encouragement throughout the search process. Please join us in welcoming Joann into our church community!

Mission Sewing June 3
 The MISSION SEWING GROUP meets on the first and third Thursday of the
month, September through the first Thursday of June, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Dining Rooms
A&B. The group does good work for the missions and enjoys
fellowship. Sewing ability is not required. Bring a sandwich; coffee

June 6 is Grand Old Day
June 6 is Grand Old Day. There will be extra traffic in the neighborhood of The House of Hope, and no traffic permitted on Grand Avenue. Parking in House of Hope lots will be reserved for church members until after the start of the 10 a.m. service. Then, the House of Hope youth will staff the parking lots and collect fees as a fundraiser for youth programs.

For Dayton Avenue Clothing Center Volunteers
Clothing Center Schedule: The Dayton Avenue Clothing Center will be open Saturday, June 5, and then will be closed all summer, reopening the Saturday after Labor Day, September 11 (1st Saturday workers will report then), and will return to the normal schedule for the balance of the year. Summer Program for Preschoolers June 21-24
"Celebrating God's World with
Music" will be offered Monday through Thursday, June 21-24 from 9 a.m.
to 12 noon. Music, movement, crafts, Bible stories, and games are all
part of this enriching week that also offers lots of fun for children
age 3 through Kindergarten. The primary leader for this program is
Sarah Hagstrom, who holds both a B.A. and M.A. in voice from USC, and
has much experience working with preschool children using both songs
and movement activities. Sarah is the daughter of Paige Hagstrom,
director of the House of Hope Preschool.

Habitat for Humanity Faith Builders
June 21- July 2
 This is the eighth year of House of Hope's participation in Faith Builders, a coalition of churches that will be working on a Habitat for Humanity project in St. Paul. Coalition members include Assumption Catholic Church, the Cathedral of St. Paul, St. Clement's Episcopal Church, St. John's Episcopal Church, and Unity Church Unitarian. We are scheduled to work from Monday through Friday, June 21-July 2, at 875 Jessie Street in St. Paul. The coalition will need a crew of up to 12 people each day and volunteers can work for as little as one day up to the full two weeks. People of all experience levels are welcomed. No construction experience is necessary and training, tools and materials, and lunch are provided. If you do not want to do construction work, we need site hosts each day and people to help with the food committee from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. Volunteer for General Assembly July 3-10
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE PC(USA) will meet in Minneapolis July 3-10, 2010, for the first time in over 25 years. The assembly consists of elected representatives of all the presbyteries in the denomination. Many volunteers are needed for this week of meetings and events. Available jobs include: worship usher, Communion servers, airport welcome, hotel welcome, registration hosts, information booth, tour assistant, prayer partner, exhibit hall monitor, and many more.
