March Art Show
Paintings by
Catherine Hearding
hearding painting iris
"My goal in painting is to portray the beauty of the ordinary. I want the viewers to see their surroundings from a different perspective, to feel the shapes as light hits the form and describes it, to see colors they might not expect.  Minnesota winters are a subject that I enjoy painting because they are all about form and light and color.
I like to find abstract forms in a realistic setting, by using shadows or by focusing in closely on a subject.  I am fascinated with how light falls on form, in landscape or still life. Shadows fascinate me and I usually see the shadow before looking at the object. Shadows depict form, and I use them to describe the shape of the landscape or object.  Color and light are intertwined and affect how we see the subject."

Minnesota Council of Churches April 8
Taking Root: Creating Community, Changing Lives
Come for dinner and learn about how you can be part of the Minnesota Council of Churches' innovative new program, Taking Root. Taking Root participants will create community by joining an interfaith co-sponsorship group to welcome a refugee family who will be arriving in Minnesota in 2010.  We are looking for individuals who are interested in joining a team that will get to know their neighbors of a different faith while working together to show our new arrivals that the world is not a cold, merciless place but rather a world of warmth, compassion and welcome.  Co-sponsoring a refugee family involves a variety of responsibilities, but holds enormous benefits.  Sponsors are enriched not only by their contribution to healing a broken world, but also by the friendships they make.  To hear more, join us for dinner on Thursday, April 8, 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Kirk Parlour.  Please RSVP by contacting Lynea Geinert at 612-230-3243 or  lynea.geinert@mnchurches.org or
