Alumni - Senior Breakfast
31 Alums attend Breakfast

The Alumni/Senior Breakfast was held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in the TC cafeteria.  We all posed for a group picture after the breakfast and the sentimental speech by none other than Ms. Linda Flowers who is retiring this year.  Usually, one of our alums gives the keynote speech, but this year, Principal Tom Reidy asked if Ms. Flowers could be the speaker.  Ms. Flowers has taught seniors at TC for 33 years and her speech brought tears to many eyes.

Will the real LISA TAMARGO, please stand up?
The Lisas
Everyone in town knows them...or do they? Imagine my extreme shock one day several years ago, driving around town and seeing the signs popping up..."Lisa Tamargo for City Council." I almost ran off the road. After all, she is one of my best friends. She's my daughter's godmother. Who knew? I couldn't get to my cell phone fast enough. Not that she isn't up on all the political issues around town, but she really isn't the "running for office" type. I was so excited but I just couldn't believe she didn't tell me about this huge change in her demeanor. Then, I got a hold of myself. This can't be right. Anyone who knows the REAL Lisa Tamargo would never give it a second thought. My friend, Lisa Rae Tamargo, (TC and FSU cheerleader) doesn't do well speaking in front of large crowds. Ok, go figure -  85K at the Doak, but that is on of the things that makes her so interesting.
So that's what brings me to this story. Obviously, there is another Lisa Tamargo and after I took this job at TC, I finally met her, because "what a small world," she is Lisa Denise Tamargo from the class of 1983 and was the president of the Tampa Catholic Alumni Association. She was the one running for City Council. I jokingly made her "the other" Lisa Tamargo just for clarity.
They do get mixed up a lot. I guess we never noticed it as teenagers because the other Lisa Tamargo was only a toddler when we were at TC. But no matter how big Tampa gets, sometimes it really is a small town. Apparently, both Lisa's are attended to by the same doctors. I hope they don't have the same dentist. Getting a cavity filled when you don't need it would definitely not be good.

Besides having the same name and graduating from TC, ten years apart, there are not very many similarities, although they freakishly sign their names the same, even though Lisa '83 is left handed. Lisa '73 is still a dancer and could fit into her old cheerleading uniform and she has worked her entire adult life in the school system. Lisa '83 is the community organizer who should be a cheerleader and is the true child of the 80's with her signature big hair. She is the executive director of Air Condition Contractors of America. People who really don't know either of them use their names interchangeably. I'm sure Lisa '83 got votes from people who thought they were voting for Lisa '73. Lisa '73 is often congratulated on all the work she does at TC where Lisa '83 is the one who organizes her class reunions. But the bottom line is that they are both TC girls and you know everyone loves a TC girl. It is this love of TC that will always link them together.

Well, they finally met at the TC Alumni/Senior Breakfast and graciously posed for this photo.  But, only someone who really knows them, can tell you which Lisa Tamargo wants to manufacture travel size bug spray?

Farewell Flowers
by Rod Stearns

Flowers for Linda

not Algernon

In your final stage right exit,

a rose for the

Queen of the Bard

is surely

Not Much Ado about Nothing.

A petal that fell from a

Midsummer's Night's Dream

was surely meant for you.

There is no Comedy of Errors

were we to present you

A Farewell Bouquet.

and if

The Two Gentlemen of Verona

were to search far and wide

on that

Twelfth Night

would they find the perfect flower for you?

In Measure for Measure

I say to you,

"She was not of an age,

but FOR ALL TIME."

The English Department hosted a farewell party for Ms. Flowers and our Renaissance man, Mr. Rod Stearns, wrote this poem in honor of Linda.
