ATTENTION: FRESHMAN & SOPHOMORE PARENTS

Dear Freshman & Sophomore Parents:

The Guidance Dept. will be returning the Explore and Plan test results to your child this week. We will be spending time in your child's English class explaining these test results and the importance of this information to your child's future. Please ASK for those results along with the copy of: "Using Your Explore Results" or "Using Your Plan Results". It will be valuable to discuss the test results and the information supplied.

Explore parents, check your child's reported needs and compare the lowest percentile rank with the needs listed. Talk to your child, teachers and counselors regarding ways to strengthen your child's weakest areas.

Plan parents, develop a College readiness Plan using the guidelines found on page 6 of the "Using Your Plan Results " that will be given to all sophomore students.

For both freshman and sophomore's, these tests provide information regarding your child's preparation for college. For example the box titled: "College Readiness", look for the check-marks indicating if your child is below, at or above standards to be ready for first year college courses. Many of you are meeting the college readiness benchmarks and it is important to note that rigorous high school academics are the best preparation to stay on track for college. For those scoring below expectations, there is still time to address areas where help may be needed.

This is a great time to begin discussing colleges with your child. Include topics such as careers, college majors and particular colleges. We encourage you to compile a list of potential colleges with your child and even plan a college visit during the sophomore or junior year.

Thank you for your assistance and attention to this process as we prepare your child for college!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Stuart, Guidance Counselor
