Greetings!
The month of May is a time that we celebrate the
accomplishments of our seniors. On
May 18th,the TC school community gathers at the Farewell
Assembly in our gym. On May 24th
and 25th, our seniors and their families worship together for the
last time at Baccalaureate and diplomas are given out at Graduation. It is my hope that these
accomplishments outweigh the many sacrifices that our families make to attend
Tampa Catholic High School. MBS Direct is the new Tampa Catholic High School book
vendor. I am confident you will find
their customer service to be exemplary. One benefit of this switch is the Guaranteed Buyback Program for selling
back used books. In this
initial year of service, MBS Direct will allow all TC families to participate
in the program even though books were not purchased directly from MBS
Direct. This process can be
completed at TC on May 13th for seniors and on May 25th
for underclassmen, or you can ship your books directly to MBS. As a result, Tampa Catholic will not be
holding a used book sale over the summer. As always, families are free to purchase books from each other as needed
and not participate in the buyback. Please visit the MBS Direct website at www.mbsdirect.net for more information. As this year comes to a close, we are already in preparation
for the 2010-2011 school year. Student orientations for next year will be held on August 9th
and 10th. Classes will
begin on August 11th. Live Jesus in our hearts. Forever! In Christ, Thomas J. Reidy, Principal

SADD Keeps Prom Safe By Chrissy Yatros '10
Every year during Prom Week, the SADD club
does its fundraising and helps to raise awareness and
prevention of poor decisions. Every day of the week had a different theme along
with an activity. Monday, March 22, there was a Mock DUI set up during the
lunches. Students put on goggles to impair vision and attempted to navigate an
obstacle course to simulate how it is to be under the influence.
Tuesday the 23rd, SADD club members participated in a "Mock-tail Social." For
$1, students were allowed to purchase a non-alcoholic cocktails served in clear
cups. A school-wide dinner took place on Wednesday March 24, where Carrabba's
catered to our cafeteria. The Tampa Catholic community was invited to attend
after purchasing a dinner ticket for $10. It is a SADD tradition to do the
"Ghost Out" every year. For this activity, which took place on Thursday the
25th, club members volunteered to "perish" during school. The selected victims,
who were called to die every 33 minutes, represented how many teenagers die in
a day due to alcohol related crashes. Each time a gong sounded over the PA
system, a specified student puts on a black t-shirt, "dying." The volunteer
"victims" were dead for the rest of the day. The last day of Prom Week was a
school wide Red Ribbon Shirt Day. The Red Ribbon t-shirt supports students in
the community making positive decisions in their everyday lives. On Friday,
Tampa Catholic welcomed speakers Jessica Leslie and Mr. and Mrs. Byrne.
Jessica Leslie shared her personal story about how her life got a little off
track, but is now reforming it by speaking at schools and events about
prevention. Mr. and Mrs. Byrne told the student body how one poor decision
dramatically affected their lives. Every year, the family gives a scholarship
to an eighth grader coming to Tampa Catholic who thinks before getting in the
car with another teen. The eventful week culminated with an extraordinary and
safe prom.

What a Grad Says.....
Victoria Lopez '09When I think back to my High School experience, I can think
of millions of opportunities and experiences that Tampa Catholic
provided me.
My personal growth was incredible during the four years that I was a
Crusader,
however the thing I value most is my Language education. I began taking entry
level Spanish class my freshmen year, and continued until the AP level
my
senior year. My Spanish education was a very personal one, since student
numbers were small and teachers were willing to make the extra effort in
order
for us to learn. Thanks to the
Spanish Department at Tampa Catholic I now am able to fully communicate
with my
family members from the Dominican Republic, which was something that I
had
always dreamed of. Not only is my language a gift on a personal level,
but it
puts me a step ahead of many other Americans in this globalized society
that we
live in today. I now attend the
Florida State College of Engineering, and thanks to my Spanish Language
skills
I am pursuing a Global Pathways Certificate along with a Minor in
Spanish
Language.
