Prostate Cancer Awareness Week 19-25, 2010!

Get ready for Prostate Cancer Awareness Week (PCAW), register your Prostate Health Screening Event!   By registering your site you can utilize all of the benefits of the program, including select screening supplies, marketing materials and national recognition and advertising!  We would also like to thank all of the Screening Sites who registered early for PCAW!

The Prostate Conditions Education Council (PCEC) strives to educate men and the people in their lives on Prostate Health.  Despite reaching over 500 million people, the need to continue educational outreach is still strong and we have more work to do.  Let's work together, to spread the word about the prevalence of Prostate Health issues, the importance of early detection and the availability of treatment options.  With your continued hard word and dedication to hosting Prostate Health Screening Events, we will continue to reduce the number of men who die from prostate cancer and increase the number of people who hear our important messaging on Prostate Health!

Please contact us with any questions and visit our website at www.prostateconditions.org.

ASSOCIATION OF TESTOSTERONE REPLACEMENT THERAPIES TO AVERAGE TESTOSTERONE IN A SCREENING POPULATION
Alexa Hughes, Colin O'Donnell, Daniel J. Tandberg, Abraham Morgentaler, Paul Arangua, E. David Crawford, Prostate Conditions Education Council, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Harvard Medical School

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: As men age, it is common for an individual's total testosterone to decline. A way to reverse the effects of low testosterone is for testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) to be administered. These treatments have a variety of modes in which the testosterone can be administered including intramuscular injections, oral and transdermal therapies.    In this retrospective study, the effect of common testosterone therapies on serum testosterone is investigated.

CONCLUSIONS: Men receiving testosterone injections and FDA-approved testosterone gels demonstrated a higher serum testosterone concentration than men receiving no testosterone treatment in a screening population. Testosterone levels were not increased for men using testosterone patches, oral therapies and non-FDA approved gels over those reporting no use.
