Dear Friends and Colleagues,
The Prostate Community has united and is focused on increasing the funds for prostate cancer research. Working together, we are supporting an effort to increase funding of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) for Prostate Cancer at the Department of Defense (DOD). Our goal is to have $125 million appropriated for 2010. The Prostate Cancer Research Program at the DOD is the only federal program that is 100% dedicated to prostate cancer research.
The Prostate cancer community has struggled to conduct human clinical trials and level funding for the past 8 years ($85 million from FY2002-FY2005 and $80 million from FY2006-FY2009). Combined with increases in indirect costs and other inflation-related issues, a net decrease in direct funding for Prostate cancer research has resulted and the program cannot directly fund clinical trials in fiscal year 2009. The need for continuing research has never been more prevalent than with the recent, conflicting reports on screening and testing.
Please join us by writing your Congressman and Senator today and let them know why you want federal funding for prostate cancer research increased at the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense (CDMRP).

Get informed and get involved. Take action today so that together, we can push for more research to find the solutions and answers we need.
