This event sounds like a lot of fun and I hope I can make it out to Redlands that night. The evening features five bands and artists, all with an Americana flavor. In addition to hearing the Zydeco Mudbugs, enjoy Hobo Jazz, The Millcreek Boys, Gary Lee & The Bayou Gators, and the Kattywompus String Band.
The show starts at 6:30 pm, tickets are only $15. There's a full bar, dance floor and food available to purchase.

For those of you who missed the chance to attend the July sessions at Bolivar Park, there are two more months of lessons coming up. Details on registration are below.
Remember that if the minimum enrollment is not met the night of the first class, class is canceled, so don't take it for granted that the class will always be there. Support the classes while they are offered or you may not have another opportunity!

POOKIE AND ZYDECO SENSATIONS AT
LOS ANGELES MUSIC CENTER JULY 30
Lil' Pookie ripped it up at Bayou Festival,
is a MUST SEE at FREE "Dance Downtown" outdoor dance concert.
|
| Young and hip, at age 35, Pookie's been performing for many years and brings his own unique touches to zydeco. He plays original Pookie tunes, traditional and Nouveau styles with flare. This is Louisiana Creole French dance music at it's best!
With 13-year-old son Jarus Seraile setting burnin' it up on rubboard, Andre Thierry on
bass and the rest of his band behind him, Pookie was
definitely sensational at the Bayou Festival this past weekend. All I can say is, "Wow!" This is fully-leaded, syncopated, pedal-to-the-metal zydeco.
Jarus, (who learned rubboard in just two days!) plays like a 40 year veteran and promises to be a big hit with the pre-teen set, so drag 'em out, put 'em in the car, I don't care what you do, just get those kids there! (He's a great kid. Very sweet, and he dances too!) It will be a fun family outing. There are plenty of tables around the plaza, so bring a picnic and
relax.
For this music to survive here in southern California, the young people have got to get excited about this music, so do what you can to get the younger people there on July 30! If you are one of my younger readers, bring your friends, OK?
Pookie's first CD should be available for purchase that night, so come ready with cash, as I'm sure you'll be wanting to get one.
Mark your calendars! You will want to be at the Los Angeles Music Center's "Dance Downtown" free dance concert series on Friday night, July 30, 2010. Dance under the stars in front of the Dorothy Chandler while the evening breezes caress you, the sky becomes filled with the gold and purple pastels of sunset and the fountain fills the air with mist.
As always, there will be dance lessons, so c'mon out and join us dancing under the stars in front of the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion. Make new friends, learn a few new moves, and spread the gospel of Zydeco. Here are the details:
