Special Event Opportunities
BB&T's Party in the Park has chosen its 2010 nonprofit partner agencies. These agencies need volunteers to help with the Party in the Park events every Thursday night May 27th - September 9th. Volunteers help with admissions, raffles, ID checks, beer ticket sales, beer sales, etc. Contact Alison for more information 985-0131 x502.
 
Festival in the Park needs over 750 volunteers May 28 - 31 for admissions, ID checks, ABC ticket sales, merchandise sales, beer service, etc! Volunteer receive free (non-alcoholic) drink tickets and a Festival t-shirt! Contact Sarah Stephenson at 342-2640 x247.
 
The Presbyterian Community Center will be hosting the Pathways End of School Banquet on June 8th at 5:30PM. Volunteers are needed to make crafty gifts and certificates. Contact Cheryl Poe at 982-2935.
 
FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway would like a volunteers to help with Trail work at Peaks of Otter/Abbott Lake and MP 115 (Fisherman's Trail by Roanoke Mountain) through June 10th. Contact Eva Gray at 772-2992.
 
Science Museum of Western Virginia would like volunteers to work FREE FRIDAY on June 11th from 12Noon - 6PM. Contact Courtney Plaster at 342-5776.
 
The Meals on Wheels annual fundraiser "Let's Do Lunch" will take place on June 18th. Volunteers needed on June 17th for preparation and June 18th for delivery. Contact Michele Daley at 345-0451 x3027.

The MDA Supper Camp will take place from July 11th - July 16th. Volunteer camp counselors are needed (ages 17 and up). Contact Donna Kester at 772-3237.
 
The Salvation Army needs volunteer Bell Ringers for "Christmas in July" kettle campaign. Contact Robin Sligh at 343-5335.
 
The Rescue Mission needs volunteer hairstlylists for the Back to School Blast on August 15th from 2PM - 4PM. Volunteers will give back to school haircuts to low-income children. Contact Leslie Littlefield at 777-7651.
 
 
On-Going Opportunities
Astride with Pride needs volunteer horse leaders, side-walkers, and camp volunteers for the summer riding season (starting in June). No horse experience needed. Volunteers also needed for grass mowing, fence-fixing, and weed-eating.
 
Big Brothers Big Sisters
is in need of male and female volunteer mentors.
 
The Brian Center in Fincastle is in need of volunteer for various tasks.
 
The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop: Fashion, Fun, and Fighting Cancer! Many opportunities available at Roanoke boutique!
 
Commonwealth Catholic Charities's Independence for Seniors program is looking for friendly visitors to make weekly contact with homebound seniors. Contact Arlene Campbell at 342-0411.
 
Friday Night Friends needs volunteers to assist children with special needs during outdoor family cookout.

Joseph C. Thomas Center needs summer youth volunteers (14 and up), and chapel volunteers from 11-12 each Sunday. Contact Beverly Adams at 380-1566.
 
Meals on Wheels is in need of volunteers to deliver hot lunches to homebound seniors. Shifts are available Monday - Friday and take about 1.5 hours. Contact Michele Daley at 345-0451 x3027.
 
Presbyterian Community Center needs volunteers to paint inside, front desk receptionists, and data entry volunteers. Contact Cheryl Poe at 982-2911.
 
Refugee & Immigration Services would like English tutors (training and materials provided), volunteers to set-up apartments for families, and mentors for refugee youth and families. Contact Mary Beth Pizzino at 342-7561.
 
Roanoke Valley Alleghany Regional Commission needs  a "Bus Passenger Boarding Data Collection Volunteer"! Volunteers need to have flexible schedule to collect passenger boarding data. This is not a survey project, just data collection by observation. Volunteers also needed as planning graphics volunteers and long-range plan proofreaders. Contact Mark McCaskill at 343-4417.
 
Ronald McDonald House is in need of volunteers to cook meals for families, yard work, and cleaning/organizing/restocking supplies.
 
Salvation Army needs after school volunteers to help with day camp participants. Contact Robin Sligh at 343-5335 x108.
 
Science Museum of Western Virginia would like an education volunteer to use die cutter and make laboratory notebooks. Science interpreters needed to work with groups on exhibit floor. 
 
Virginia Cooperative Extension needs volunteers to deliver nutrition education to limited-income groups. Faith-based and community agencies are encouraged to inquire. Free training/professional development, materials, and ongoing support.
 
YWCA is in need of volunteers with computer skills to teach wormen Internet, MS Word and Excel; volunteers to fix up women's/children's rooms.
