Special Events/One-Time Opportunities
FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway will need volunteers for the Blue Ridge Parkway Marathon on April 24th. Volunteers will hand out water and work at stations along the route. Shifts available. Contact Regina Desper at 772-2992 or [email protected].
 
The Muscular Dystrophy Association will be holding the Roanoke Lock-Up on April 27th. Volunteers are needed for various duties throughout the day. Contact Leslie Bauguss at 772-3237 or [email protected].
 
Greenvale School will host the annual Chili Cook-Off on May 1st. Volunteers are needed to set-up/break-down, sell soft drinks, beer garden. Contact Jenny Lee at 342-4176.
 
Astride with Pride will hold a Draft Horse Show on Mary 8th at Green Hill Equestrian Park. Volunteers needed to help with gates, etc. Contact Stormie Shelton-Hazen at 587-0668 or [email protected].
 
The O. Winston Link Museum will host "Roanoke Rails: A celebration on N&W Mainline" on May 8th. Volunteers needed for set-up and break-down of event. Contact Leah Gardner at 982-5465 or [email protected].
 
Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank will hold the "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive on May 8th. Volunteers are needed at area post offices to unload food from letter carrier vehicles, sort and load food onto Food Bank Truck. Shift are 12-3 and 3-6. The Salvation Army will hold the "Amazing Race" Summer Day Camp June 14 - August 20. Volunteers are needed to assist with programs and drive campers. Contact Alice Loy at 355-1829 or [email protected].
 
Friday Night Friends will hold a Parent/Child Cookout on June 25th. Volunteers are needed to assist with shadowing special needs children and serving at the cookout. Contact Carol McCulloch at 890-1244 or [email protected].
 
The Rescue Mission will hold the Back to School Blast on August 15th. Volunteer hair stylists are needed for back to school haircuts for kids. 2000 kids expected this year! Contact Leslie Littlefield at 777-7651 or [email protected].

American Cancer Society Discovery Shop is looking for fashion-minded people to work in the sorting and pricing room and on the sales floor.
 
Astride with Pride is seeking lesson volunteers and volunteers to help with grounds maintenance.

Commonwealth Catholic Charities is looking for volunteers for the "Friendly Visitor" program, craft volunteers, and a senior exercise volunteer. Contact Susan Marshall at 278-1650 or [email protected].
 
Friday Night Friends needs volunteers to help special needs children with games, activities, crafts, and general "shadowing".
 
Goodwill Industries of the Valleys is seeking volunteers for the "GoodGuides" Youth Mentoring Program. Volunteers are asked to commit to 4 hours a month for one year.
 
Greenvale School is looking for landscaping/beautification volunteers and volunteers to assist in the classrooms. Contact 342-4716.
 
Muscular Dystrohpy Association needs volunteers to fold/stuff packets and camp counselors in July.
 
O. Winston Link Museum is in need of volunteers to greet visitors in admissions area and handling Museum Shop sales. Tuesday afternoons, Wednesday morning/afternoons, and weekends. Contact Leah Gardner at 982-5456 or [email protected].

Roanoke Valley Alleghany Regional Commission is in need of a long-range Transportation Plan Proofreader, and Planning Comupter Graphics volunteer, and a RIDE Solutions website content management systems volunteer. Contact Mark McCaskill at 343-4417 or [email protected].
 
Ronald McDonald House needs volunteers to cook meals for families, to clean and organize common areas, and general yard clean up.
