Special Events/One-Time Opportunities

2010 Mission of Mercy Project will take place on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27. General and professional volunteers are needed for a variety of positions! Contact Alison Jorgensen at 985-0131 x502 or alisonj@councilofcommunityservices.org.

 

City of Roanoke will hold the Lead Safe Roanoke Children's Bonanza on March 10th from 9AM - 4:30PM. Volunteers needed to assist with children's activities. Contact Ándrea Martin at 853-1801 or andrea.martin@roanokeva.gov.

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters will host the "Bowl for Kids Sake" Event on March 6th in the NRV and March 13th in Roanoke. You can sign up for the event at www.bigslittles.org or contact Melanie Moore atmmore@bigslittles.org or 345-9604.

 

Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway will be holding a viewshed planting on March 20th from 10AM - early afternoon. Contact Eva Gray for more information at 772-2992 or eva_gray@friendsbrp.org.

 

Girl Scouts will be hosting their Spring Break Camp "Take Action - Its Your Planet" April 5th - 9th. Volunteers needed to assist girls through a variety of activities. Contact Lynda Calkins at 777-5100 or lcalkins@gsvsc.org.

 

Greenvale School will host the annual Chili Cook-off on May 1st. Volunteers are needed in all areas of the event. Contact Jenny Lee at jlee@greenvale-school.org or 342-4716.

On-Going Volunteer Needs

211 Virginia (SW Region) needs volunteers to assist with updating the database. Experience with data entry is required. Contact Alison Jorgensen at 985-0131 x502 or alisonj@councilofcommunityservices.org.

 

American Cancer Society Discovery Shop is looking for volunteers to assist in the sorting/pricing room, and in the  shop working with shoppers. Flexible schedule.

 

Astride with Pride is in need of program volunteers for lessons and office assistance.

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters is in need of volunteers to serve as big brothers and big sisters.

 

Bradley Free Clinic needs volunteer medical professionals Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Friday mornings. Non-medical volunteers are also needed Monday - Friday 9-5.

 

CHIP is seeking volunteers to assist in their file room and volunteers to assist with GED preparation. Volunteers also needed to build some shelving. Contact Susan Crim at 857-6993 or susan.crim@chiprv.org.

Greenvale School needs volunteer baby rockers, classroom volunteers, and grounds/beautification volunteers.
 
Joseph C. Thomas Center would like volunteers to spring projects (Senior Prom, Beauty Pageant, etc.), to assist with residents, and to take residents to Sunday morning Chapel service.
