The Governor's Volunteerism and Community Service Awards are presented by the Governor's Advosiry Board on National and Community Service on behalf of the Office of the Governor. These awards recognize the significant contributions of Virginia citizens to the life and welfare of the Commonwealth and its people. The awards will be presented during the month of April to recognize these exceptional contributions.
 
Special Events/One-Time Opportunities
Salem VA Medical Center will be celebrating National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week February 8 - 14 Volunteers are needed to provide entertainment of all types to hospitalized veterans. Volunteers are also asked to write cards to the hospitalized veterans. Contact Ann Benois at 224-1919 or shelby.benois@va.gov.
 
Friendship Health & Rehab will be having a Mardi Gras party for its residents on February 16th. Volunteers are needed to assis with crafts, decorating, and hepling residents get to/from the party. Contact Amy Mitchell at 777-7587 or amitchell@friendship.us.
 
2010 Mission of Mercy Project will take place on Friday, March 26th and Friday March 27th. General and professional dental/medical volunteers are needed for a variety of positions. CHIP needs volunteers to serve on a planning committee for their "Dental Fair/Easter Party" on March 31st. Contact Susan Crim at 857-6993 or susan.crim@chiprv.org.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is in need of volunteers to serve as big brothers and big sisters.

Delaney Court Civic League would like a volunteer to work on their computers on an ad hoc basis.
 
Friendship Health & Rehab is looking for volunteers to assist with BINGO and crafts; volunteers are also needed to take breakfast and dessert carts around to residents.

Salem VA Medical Center needs volunteers on the pallative care unit and home-based primary care (both non-clinical) and for the volunteer transportation network.
