What a lovely world it is! Even after a mild winter this past year, spring has turned out to be a beauty. The Bradford pear trees are in blossom and are so full this year and the forsythia has been gorgeous. As we spend more time out of doors and the thoughts of fresh vegetables and flowers start to grow upon us, the Library has a lot of books to help get you started.

New Self-sufficient Gardener by John Seymour - complete illustrated guide to planning, growing, storing and preserving your own garden produce.
Container Garden by Thomasina Tarling - from choosing the right container for your plant to creating an outdoor room, this book covers all you need to start getting potted.
Climbing Gardens by Joan Clifton - covers structures, styles, plants (ornamental, vegetable, and fruit), with beautiful photos.
Growing Fruit by Alan Buckingham - A bible on fruit growing - from choosing the site, soil requirements, root stocks, pruning, routine care, harvesting and storing and season by season care as well as what can go wrong. Full color photos for all categories
Deer Resistant Landscaping by Neil Soderstrom - what could be more relevant to our are then this book. Not only does it cover deer it also offers advice and strategies against bears, chipmunks, moles rabbits, raccoons, rats & mice, squirrels and woodchucks to name a few.
Cook's Herb Garden by Jeff Cox - from how to choose your herbs, to growing, harvesting, storing and cooking with them. A comprehensive little book that includes recipes.
And be sure to ask about the new children's books donated to the Library by the Coxsackie Garden Club. They are; The Budding Gardener , Gardening Projects for Kids: fantastic ideas for making things, growing plants and flowers and attracting wildlife by Jenny Hendy, Aunt Mary's Rose by Doug Wood, Water, Weed, and Wait by Edith Hope Fine, Toad Cottages & Shooting Stars by Sharon Lovejoy. These can be found in the children's room.
Space doesn't allow for all of our gardening books to be mentioned so be sure to ask us, from salad gardens to putting the harvest up, we have or can find what your digging this spring.
