Library Election
Tuesday October 18th 10 AM to 9 PM
The Heermance Memorial Library election will be held at the library, 1 Ely Street, Coxsackie on Tuesday, October 18th from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Each year residents of the Town of Coxsackie elect three members to the nine-member Board of Trustees, the governing board of the library. Incumbents; Bill Conine, Wanda Dorpfeld and MaryAnne Simmons are running unopposed.
Residents of the Town of Coxsackie also vote each year on the special library district tax assessment. The library tax is listed as a separate item on the Town of Coxsackie tax bill. Last year town residents paid approximately $43.87 on a home assessed at $100,000. The proposed 2012 tax levy of $183,043 would result in a tax of $44.90 on a home assessed at $100,000. This is an increase of $1.03.
The 2012 budget includes funding to expand Monday hours. A few years ago we added Monday hours, from 3pm to 6pm, to accommodate students using the library after school. We now have as many people in 3 hours on Monday afternoons as we do on a day that we are open 8 hours and not everyone gets to finish what they are working on. Due to patron demand we would like to expand Monday hours and open at10am.
Copies of the 2012 budget are available at the library and on our web page www.hml.lib.ny.us.
All registered voters in the town of Coxsackie are encouraged to come and vote on October 18th.
