Between the Covers

As life settles down to a slower pace and the ravages of winter lurk outside our door, the warmth and comfort of a quiet reading niche calls to us.  With more time to ponder over that which we read, why not pick up a book of more a contemplative subject matter.  Some new books that have recently been added to our collection and may be of interest to you are:
The Sellout: How Three Decades of Wall Street Greed and Government Mismanagement Destroyed the Global Financial  System by Charles Gasparino
Imperial Cruise: Secret History of Empire and War by James Brady
Stones Into Schools by Greg Mortenson
Last Words by George Carlin
Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in  History by Robert Edsel
The Fourth Part of the World by Toby Lester -   Toby Lester traces the story behind the map that gave America its name.  In 2003 the Library of Congress paid $10 million for the only existing copy of the 1507 map.  A well told and researched account of a map that helped to shape our world today.

Winter Doldrums?
Join the Friends for an afternoon of music, tea and sweet confections.

On Saturday afternoon, January 30th from 3:30pm till 5:30pm the Friends of the Library are hosting a tea tasting at the library, featuring a variety of Stash teas, as well as delectable treats prepared by the Friends. The Perfect Duo, Rick Rick Rowley and Suzanne Shablovsky (see them on-line at theperfectduo.com), will provide the musical backdrop for this  FREE and enriching event.

A Friend-ly Update

The Friends of the Library want to thank everyone who donated a wreath to our annual "Bough to the Holidays" silent wreath auction at Christmas by the River and to all who bid on the wreaths. The auction and our sales of  Stash teas and honey sticks made the festive event a successful fundraiser. Boxes of tea remain available including Moroccan Mint Green tea, China Oolong  and Organic Honeybush Herbal tea.

January brings us to a time to look back over the last year and to plan for the New Year. At our January meeting on January 13th we reviewed our annual finances and set up committees for our annual fundraising events including the spring and autumn bus trips to N.Y.C., Coxsackie Cuisine, Spring Plant Swap , Annual Appeal Letter, and "Bough to the Holidays" Wreath auction.

The Friends are also planning community give back events. Our afternoon tea tasting on Saturday, January 30th is the first of these events.  We are planning to have more music events to showcase local musicians and the wonderful acoustics and ambiance of the library reading  room.

While the Friends will continue to support children and homework programs , we are  also  working to  keep Request -a- Title free.

Everyone is invited to join us to volunteer for a committee or suggest an event.

Mother Goose Time at the Library

Join us on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am for a short session of songs, rhymes and stories. This program is designed for young children ages birth to three.
