Earlier today, the Board of Officers of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) reviewed the supplemental use of force policy issued by the state Attorney General that permits some law enforcement officers to use electronic stun guns in limited circumstances involving emotionally disturbed individuals. According to NJSACOP President Chief Robert Coulton (Ewing Twp. PD), "while we believe that the new policy is a step in the right direction, we do believe that it could be improved, and plan to address the issue with the new administration and the next Attorney General."
The Association's Executive Director, Mitchell Sklar, indicated that the Board would assign a task force to review the new supplemental use of force policy in detail and provide the next Attorney General with specific suggestions.
