SWALCO Launches New Recycling Effort
RECYCLE FIRST TRASH LAST
With more and more things rightfully belonging in your recycling cart,you may have to come up with creative uses for your trashcan. See for yourself: recycle first and trash last what's left. Start by learning what's on the ever-expanding list of what's recyclable here in Lake County.
Voter Registration
Residents who are new to Lake County, moved to a new address in Lake County, turned 18 on or before Election Day, or have changed one's name need to register to vote with local deputy registrars by Tuesday, Oct. 9. New registrants must be U.S. citizens, 18 years old on or before the election, residents of the precinct for 30 days immediately prior to Election Day, and must provide two forms of valid identification.
Registration is available at the County Clerk's office and at most municipal, township and library facilities. To find the nearest registration location, view Official Places of Voter Registration or call the County Clerk's Voter Registration Department at 847.377.2410.
Lake County Budget Presentation Award
Lake County's Finance and Administrative Services has been awarded its fifth straight Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the FY 2012 budget. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awards governing bodies that satisfy nationally recognized guidelines in the areas of financial structure, policy, process and presentation. The county board's fiscal policies have allowed the county to manage challenging budget times and maintain fiscal stability. This allows us to save taxpayer money, focus our efforts on funding our much needed services, and maintain a triple A credit rating from Standard & Poor's and Moody's Investors Services.

Low-Cost Pet Vaccination Clinics
Two low-cost pet vaccination clinics are scheduled in September. On Sept. 22, the Health Department's Animal Care and Control Program is partnering with West Deerfield Township and Deerfield Park District. On Sept. 29, it is partnering with the Avon Foundation at the Round Lake Area Park District's community center. Learn more about these events and other scheduled clinics.

Dead Dog Creek Stream Restoration Project Kick-Off
A $1.6 million project to restore Dead Dog Creek kicked off on August 15 with an event in Winthrop Harbor. The two-phase project, funded through a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency, will restore Dead Dog Creek on the western and eastern sides of Sheridan Road through bioengineering methods, while providing hundreds of jobs. The project brings together nature and economic development, improving high-quality wetlands and water quality while enhancing recreation opportunities. Watch now:

The Chief County Assessment Office of Lake County will hold two PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETINGS and eighteen TAX ASSESSMENT HELP CENTERS this fall to help residents understand their property assessment. View Full Schedule.
Public Information Meeting: Saturday, Sept. 15, at 9 a.m. The Chief County Assessment Officer will explain the property tax process, assessment procedures, county website tools used to review an assessment valuation, outline the assessment appeal process and answer property tax related questions from residential property owners.
