You Have a Choice on Your Electric Supply - But what does this mean?
Lake County residents have a choice on who provides the supply portion of their electric service and choosing a different electric supplier may be able to save you money. Any Lake County resident can choose to purchase their electricity supply from an alternative supplier. Essentially, this means you can shop for suppliers providing service in your area and compare prices, charges, other terms, and select a new supplier. Learn more.
If you live in unincorporated Lake County, this option is available to you now. If you reside in a community that has pursued aggregation, your municipality has secured an electric supply plan and you can opt-in, or opt-out. If you opt-out, you can also shop around and choose an alternative supplier now. Find out if your community has implemented a municipal aggregation program.

County Board Adopts All Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan
Lake County is taking steps to mitigate losses from natural disasters like flooding, tornadoes, blizzards and severe storms. The Lake County Board recently adopted the multi-jurisdictional "All Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan" (ANHMP) that outlines actions to reduce losses during these events and also opens the door for federal grant funding. The Lake County Stormwater Management Commission and Lake County Emergency Management Agency led a year-long planning effort along with several communities to update the plan, first adopted in 2006.

County Board Approves Changes to Watershed Development Ordinance Establishing Countywide Stormwater Standards
Many residents aren't aware of the comprehensive stormwater standards and plans that are in place to address floodplains, water detention, soil erosion/sediment control, water quality and wetlands. State and federal laws require certain local standards which are outlined in the countywide Watershed Development Ordinance. The Lake County Board recently updated this plan to improve administrative efficiency, clarify language, streamline the permitting process, and maintain compliance with state and federal mandates.

Lake County Division of Transportation Upgrades Traffic Signals
When storms knock out power, it can impact traffic control systems causing problems for drivers. Loss of power also makes it challenging for the Traffic Management Center to know what traffic signals are operational, and for operators to view video of the affected areas unless they are on battery backup.
That is why the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) has been investing in upgrading county traffic signals to LED signals with battery backup units since 2006. Typically about seven to 10 intersections are upgraded annually. In addition to these upgrades, Lake County is also installing battery backup units in key signal connection equipment at 17 locations.
Prompted by last summer's severe storm events, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has also begun the process of upgrading all traffic signals in the state. In order to make this program more manageable, IDOT split Lake County into four quadrants. The southeast quadrant will be the first area upgraded and the northeast quadrant will be next to go to construction. The remaining two quadrants are scheduled for later this year and early next year.
