County Board Terms Established by Lottery
Every 10 years, new terms of office are established for county board members using a lottery system. At the June meeting, the county administrator randomly drew 21 bingo balls to determine the terms of office for each of the 21 county board districts (Watch video of drawing). Seven members will serve a term of four years, four years, two years; seven members will serve a term of four years, two years, four years, and seven members will serve a term of two years, four years, four years. The terms of office will begin in 2012 (following the November election) and will expire in 2022. See results.
Earlier this year, the County Board approved a new district map that reduced the size of the board from 23 to 21 members. The map will take effect when the terms of office for the current members expire, and a new slate of board members is elected in November. County boards are required to redraw district lines every 10 years following the census so that each district has equal population, according to federal and state laws. Visit the County's website to view the new district boundaries.
