County Treasurer To Hold Annual Tax Sale |

The Lake County Treasurer's Office sent final notices for property tax bills earlier this week. For property owners with unpaid taxes, there are several important dates approaching that you should be aware of:
NOVEMBER 4: All payments received after Nov. 4 must be made by certified funds - cash, certified bank check or money order made payable to the Lake County Collector.
NOVEMBER 10: Those interested in participating in the tax sale must register no later than Nov. 10.
NOVEMBER 23: To avoid taxes going to the tax sale, payments must be posted at the Lake County Treasurer's office by Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. Postmark will not be accepted. Also, no personal checks will be accepted.
NOVEMBER 28 & 29: Annual Tax Sale Greenbelt Cultural Center, 1215 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, 9 a.m. According to Illinois State Statute, the County Treasurer is to hold an annual tax sale to sell unpaid property taxes. Only the unpaid property taxes are sold, not the property. These taxes can be redeemed with additional cost and interest for up to three years from the date of the sale. Property Tax Redemption
Lake County Treasurer Robert Skidmore explained, "Property owners can verify their payment status by calling our office, or checking our website. But we also want to encourage you to check on elderly family members or friends to be sure their taxes are paid." |
