| 'Tis The Season of Joy and Hope |
Advent is here! The word 'Advent' means coming. Every year at this time a four week period is set aside in preparation of the coming of Christ. We celebrate the coming of Christ with expectancy and joyful anticipation. Each Sunday in Advent a candle is lit each with a special focus. The Advent symbols begin with the evergreen wreath representing the power of God, which knows no beginning nor ending. The three purple candles symbolizes the royal line of David; the pink candle represents joy. This year at Trinity East The Willie Mitchell Family lit the first candle. On the second Sunday, The Mamie Davis Family will light the candle. The third candle of Advent will be lit by members of the Youth Ministry Department. Althea Mathews and Family will light the final candle (white).
Advent Study
Green represents new life, freshness, and rebirth. Plants such as pine, fir, holly, ivy and mistletoe are called evergreens because they do not die. Throughout the seasons of the year, they remain ever-green. This is why our sanctuary and other areas in the Church are filled with evergreens during the Advent season in preparation of the coming Christ, who is God's gift to us of renewal and ransformation. Special thanks to Frank Neal, Alene Williams, Janie Putney, Maurine Willie, Joyce Mathis, & Donald Gray for using their time, talent, and gifts in the adorning of sanctuary.
