Can you believe it's Fall already?

Today marks the end of September which means it really is fall!   No more pretending that summer is still here - time to start thinking about buying pumpkins, fall festivals, sweater weather and the holidays!

Living in Connecticut we are blessed with the beauty of the amazing foliage and all that autumn brings.  I love going to harvest fairs, tasting the first hot cider of the year and hiking in the nice cool weather.

This year, Founders Insurance Group is the proud sponsor of the First Annual NW CT Harvest Festival to be held in downtown Torrington on Friday October 22nd. To be specific, we are overseeing the Non-Profit Great Pumpkin Carving Contest!  For each carved Jack O' Lantern local non-profits bring to the Festival they will receive a ticket to be entered into a drawing.  The random winner of that drawing will be awarded $250 for their non-profit. We hope that downtown will be lit up with the best Jack O' Lanterns in the Northeast!

So many people give during the holidays  - but many non-profits really struggle during the non-holiday months.  Please take the time to donate to your favorite local charity.  Soup kitchens, the YMCA, food pantries, homeless shelters...the list goes on and they all need our help.

Enjoy the fall and remember those less fortunate!  If you want to get in on the Pumpkin Carving action in downtown Torrington - give me a call!  Details about the entire event are below.

Fall To-Do list!

raking leavesBeyond raking leaves in your back yard, there are a host of things that you should take care of before winter sets in.

We're not suggesting that you shouldn't enjoy this perfect time of year - but now is the time to begin preparing your home for the elements that are just around the corner.

Here is just the short list!

  • Air Vents - Make sure that your dryer and all other fan vents are working.  Clean if needed.
  • Heating System - This is an absolute MUST!  Have your furnace inspected and cleaned.  Not only could you avoid a disaster - but a clean furnace will be more energy efficient.
  • Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors - Test them!  If they are battery driven - change the batteries at least twice per year.
  • Outside Faucets - If you do not have freeze proof faucets it is important to shut off the indoor water valve and make sure the outside faucet is completely drained. Winterize your hoses.
  • Air Conditioning - COVER outside air conditioning units.
  • Gutters - Ensure there are no leaves or other debris in them.
  • Attic - inspect for insulation issues and leaks
  • Chimney - Have your chimney cleaned and inspected.
  • Caulking - Check the caulking on all doors and windows - replace and repair where needed. This will help your energy savings during the winter months!
  • Weather Stripping - Even insulated doors and windows need help in the winter!
  • Roofs - Check for any missing, curling, cupping, broken or cracked shingles.  Check for deterioration around the flashing at chimneys, vents and other junctions.
  • Bird nests - We love nature too - but bird nests in your chimney flues are just asking for trouble - remove them!

Make it a family day and take care of your home before winter! Again - this is just the short list.  You can always have a licensed home inspector come out to go over your entire house to check for unseen issues - better safe than sorry!

Happy Autumn from all of us at Founders Insurance Group!

Here's what Bill Eggers had to say about Founders Insurance:

Q: If you could describe Founders Insurance in ONE word - what would that word be?
A: "Family"

Q:In your opinion, what makes Founders Insurance Group different than other insurance agencies?
A:"You're not just an account number, they care about whatever problem you have and solve it."

Q: When it comes to working with an insurance agent, what is most important to you? Does Founders deliver that to you?
A: "The agent should listen to you and actually understand your problems. Founders delivered the goods exceptionably."

Thank you Bill Eggers for the kind words and for being a part of the Founders Family!!
