Well the first month of the new year is coming to a close and 2010 promises to be a great one at Founders Insurance!
Many of my friends and colleagues were excited when 2009 finally came to an end and we could all begin a fresh start.
I, on the other hand, had mixed feelings about the close of last year. 2009 was a big year for me - I closed my business, Brookhollow Marketing and came on board as Director of Marketing for Founders. A tad scary at the time, but as I inch forward towards my one year anniversary, I know I made the right choice.
I've been called the eternal optomist by many - and I guess that is true. Happiness and success are driven by attitude. Yes, the economy has been rough - but this too shall pass. Those that will prosper and ultimately be successful will be those that don't lose sight of the big picture.
Many say that this recession has taught us all a lesson - that proverbial silver lining that is in all things tough.
We are all watching our pennies, appreciating what is free - our friends and family, and enjoying what is really important in life - that which is priceless.
I too will embrace 2010 - perhaps it will be better than 2009 as many are hoping!
Cheers to the New Year!

| Winter wonderland...or frozen disaster! |
|
In case you've missed it, we are experiencing the bite of Ole' Man Winter! We all know to bundle up our children for the bus stop, bring our pets inside and take precautions with our automobiles - but many of us forget about our homes, specifically our plumbing.
Each year the fifth leading cause of homeowner's claims are due to ice and snow. Burst pipes are a big contributor!
You can prevent frozen pipes by following these tips:
- Keep the inside temperature of your home at 65 degrees or warmer.
- Wrap heating tape and/or standard insulation around pipes wherever possible.
- Look for pipes with cracks or leaks -they freeze first.
Keep cabinet doors open during cold spells to allow warm air to circulate around pipes (particularly in the kitchen and bathroom).
- If you're leaving your home for several days, turn off the water completely and drain the pipes, or keep water dripping through one or two faucets, as moving water prevents freezing. However, if you are leaving your home for an extended period of time, plan to turn the water off. It also helps to have someone check your home every day while you are gone.
- If your pipes do freeze, quickly shut off the water and immediately call a plumber.
Bundle up your home - the time you take with these easy steps can save you thousands of dollars and make your insurance agent very happy! |
| Carrier Corner - The Hanover Insurance Group |
|
The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. was formed in 1852 in New York City to protect businesses and homeowners facing the common 19th Century hazard of fire. From just a few rooms in a building near Manhattan's Hanover Square-from which the company took its name-the company grew rapidly.
Hanover's Connections Auto Endorsements are "extras" that you can add to your auto policy that go above and beyond the basic Connections Auto policy coverages!
Here is a list in part of some of those great add-ons:
DriveSmart Advantage (DSA)
- New Car Replacement Guard: If your new car is totaled within one year or 15,000 miles of purchase, whichever comes first, Hanover will cover its replacement without deduction for depreciation
- Second Chance Accident Forgiveness: Your first surchargeable accident in any 36-month period will be forgiven. That means no surcharge points on your policy for that accident and no increase in premium as a result of that accident!
- Deductible Dividends: Your collision deductible is reduced as soon as the endorsement is added to your policy. Over the course of five years, this could save you up to $500 off your deductible! (A minimum deductible of $100 applies in the event of loss.
Pet Injury Protection
- Helps ease the financial burden if your dog or cat is injured in a car accident. Covers up to $500 in veterinarian bills and up to $500 for burial/disposal expenses if your dog or cat is injured or passes on while traveling in your vehicle during an auto accident.
Rental Car Coverage
- If you have an accident in a rented auto, Hanover will pay (in addition to paying for the damage to the rented auto):
- Loss of use - the rental value of the duration the car is out of service for which you are liable
- Dimished value - the difference in the car's resale value after it has been repaired
- Reasonable fees - the expenses the rental company incurs handling/processing the claim for which you are liable
To learn about the rest of Hanover's endorsements for their Connections Auto policy - give us a call at the Founders Insurance Group!
