Building A Bright Future
In September, we started building a home for the Kahe'e family in the community of Keaukaha! Each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. volunteers have been coming out to help us build. This Thanksgiving week we will be taking a break, but construction will resume on Saturday, December 4th. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact us at info@hilohabitat.org.

Annual Walk-A-Thon On August 21, we participated in the Keaukaha Community Annual Ho'olaulea with a 5K walk-a-thon. It was a beautiful morning for a walk through a neighborhood where Hilo Habitat works in partnership with the community to build simple, decent, affordable homes. Wonderful refreshments were provided throughout the event by KTA, HomeStreet Bank and Malia Puka O Kalani Church. Awesome musical entertainment was provided by Aukahi Pride. Great raffle prizes were donated by Curves, Cost U Less, Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, Cronies, Oceanic Time-Warner Cable, Safeway and Starbucks!
Showing their community support, members of Living Waters Assembly of God, Church of the Holy Cross, and Hilo Church of God, participated in the walk-a-thon!
Mahalo to all those involved for making this event a success! We can't wait to do it again in 2011!

Power of One
Hale Aloha O Hilo Habitat for Humanity has raised over one thousand dollars for the "Power of One" campaign. We continue to ask for $1 donations from each member of East Hawaii, in an effort to eliminate poverty housing in our community.
Through volunteer labor and tax deductible donations of money, materials and land, Habitat builds affordable housing in East Hawaii. Habitat homes are sold to qualified partner families at no profit and financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The new homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are then placed into a revolving fund that is used to help Habitat to build homes for additional families in our community.
Studies show that home ownership improves health has a positive effect on children, builds wealth and strengthens communities.
How can you help? Help us spread the word and collect $1 dollar donations from your workplace, household, club or church. Please try to list all donors full names for Habitat's records.
Donations can also be dropped off at the following restaurants: Akmals Indian Cuisine, Blazin Steaks, L&L (Kinoole), and Nihon Japanese Restaurant, where donation containers have been provided.
Additionally, donations can be made online at www.hilohabitat.org or mailed to Habitat's ReStore located at 700 Manono St., Hilo, HI 96720. Mahalo for your participation!
