Hello Colleagues and Friends,
It's hard to believe it is already May!
It was wonderful seeing many of you at the MHHRA and CHRA Spring Conferences in April.
I came across an excellent article about technology and how it has affected our ways of communicating. I, too, am guilty of the constant need to check emails on my smartphone. You only have to look around a movie theater before the movie starts to see how many people opt to check in on their phones rather than to speak with the person next to them! The preference for people to text over picking up the telephone to talk is startling! Communication as we knew it has changed dramatically since the emergence of smartphones.
With the option to communciate via text, tweets, Facebook, and email, what is happening to our ability to communicate in meetings, interviews, and other face to face interactions? Are we thinking about our powerful non-verbal communication skills (body language, tone of voice, to name a few)?
Check out this article that resonates with my concerns about the deterioration of face to face communication. Flight from conversation.
I welcome any feedback about this article. Feel free to Contact me.
