FOHR Annual Meeting - August 21, 2012 - 4:00 PM
Please mark your calendars for 4:00 PM, August 21, the date of the Friends of Herring River Annual Meeting.  It will be held at the Council on Aging, 715 Old King's Highway Wellfleet, MA.

John Portnoy and John Cumbler will give an illustrated presentation of the historical, environmental, and cultural impact of the Herring River on Bound Brook Island and the vibrant community that once existed there. He has discovered a number of old photos during research at the Wellfleet Historical Society that are included in this presentation.

Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore
Celebrates Twenty-Five Years with an
Anniversary Gala Celebration

On Wednesday, August 22nd, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore, a non-profit group that supports the park's mission through a variety of outreach, fundraising and volunteer work projects, will host a gala event to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Award-winning journalist Sebastian Junger, author of The Perfect Storm, will be the Friends' special guest speaker at the celebration.

What better place to salute 25 years of service to the National Seashore than on the terrace of Salt Pond Visitor Center, overlooking beautiful Nauset Marsh? Attendees will enjoy complimentary wine and beer, hors d'oeuvres from several top Cape restaurants and music by the Alan Clinger Trio. There will also be door prizes and a raffle drawing. Join us!

Cost is $50.00 per person. Tickets are available online from the Friends' website, www.fccns.org/activities.   Funds raised by this event will go to the benefit of three National Seashore projects, recently adopted by Friends.

The Making Waves Project brings underserved youth from Hyannis and off-Cape urban areas to the park for recreation, resource immersion and career awareness. Work on the Penniman House's grounds will restore its historic appearance and improve visitor safety. Finally, installation of wayside exhibits along the Province Lands Bicycle Trails will promote visitor education about nearby natural and cultural resources.
