Kayak/Canoe the Herring River With Us Thursday, September 9
A kayak/canoe trip from Rt. 6, Wellfleet, to the dike at Chequessett Neck Road will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9. Designed for experienced kayakers, the trip will include two portages, one at Bound Brook and one at High Toss Road, as well as a rigorous take out at the Dike near Chequesset Neck Road. This is a 2-3 mile paddle and will take 2-3 hours.
On this trip we
will pass through a variety of human-altered habitats, ranging from swamp
forests to shrub thickets to dense stands of exotic plants, where there once
was 1100 acres of coastal tidal marsh.
The effects of historic alterations to the estuary, and the expected
benefits of tidal restoration, will be discussed along the way. Participants will bring their own kayaks or canoes.
Please e-mail your interest and your phone number to Don@friendsofherringriver.org. More details will be announced on August 17 at the Friends Annual Meeting.
