Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

John 14:1-14

In this passage, Jesus tells the disciples that they were not to let their hearts be troubled. There were many things that surrounded this statement. From Judas' betrayal, Peter's denial, Jesus' death and burial, this all would be cause for the disciples to be troubled and have anxious moments.

Jesus knew that much that they had faced and would soon face would cause the disciples to question many things regarding what they had given their life to for the last three years and whether they would want to continue this journey.

Jeff preached this past Sunday that Jesus gave them the gift of His Promise, His Person and His Power as a strong word of encouragement to hold their hearts and souls steady through the troubled waters that they were drifting toward.

'Let not your heart be troubled." How many times had they observed the words of Jesus move things such as water, wind, demons and even dead bodies from impossible places of hopelessness to a place of peace, freedom and life? The answer would be often, at least often enough to know that Jesus could do anything.

Now he moved the greatest obstacle that the disciples would face: their unbelief because of fear and anxiety. But Jesus leaves them with this strong word of encouragement that he is preparing a place for them in Him that will deal a death blow to all that can possibly trouble a man's soul.

Brothers and Sisters, may we each live with the assurance that He is our peace, our joy and our hope.
