A New Commandment

John 13:34-35

[34] A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. [35] By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

In this passage, Jesus gives the disciples the creed for the Kingdom of God. It is not what is expected by those who have followed him for the last 3 years. They were possibly scratching their heads and saying, "What's love got to do with it?"

Really, Jesus? The world will know that we belong to you and your Kingdom because of love? That sounds so weak and insufficient to the natural man.

What the disciples did not yet understand is that this was a supernatural gift being given to them with a supernatural, invisible band of power and might that would be able to transform the most hopeless soul from darkness to light.

This creed of the Kingdom, God's love, will be able to cut through hardness, anger, bitterness and disappointment and replace all those things with joy, peace and hope.

The disciples were being extended an invitation to experience life the way the Father, the Son, and the Spirit experienced it. They were being given the substance of God himself. God is love.

Heaven's very source of flow and unity was now being extended to men. Extended to them to experience, to embrace, and more importantly, to share. As men and women release this unexplainable, undefinable and unconditional gift from heaven, the world would never be the same.

Let us receive it and share it again just as the disciples did and watch the world be turned upside down.
