End Cancer Now

In our last BCA e-newsletter, we discussed our commitment to end breast cancer by January 1, 2020 by joining with the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) on The Breast Cancer Deadline 2020. We will continue to provide you with updates and how you can help us achieve this goal.

Tell the President It's Time to End Breast Cancer

The NBCC is gathering signatures on a petition to the President calling on him to publicly commit to bring this nation's leadership, intellectual and creative forces to bear on this matter of utmost importance to people in the United States and around the world.

We are counting on you to ensure that we collect as many signatures as possible so the President hears our voices loud and clear.

To end breast cancer by January 1, 2020, everyone, including the President of the United States, must be on board.

Actions:

1.  Sign the petition now.

2.  Send the electronic form of the petition to all your friends and colleagues with a personal note of endorsement strongly encouraging them to sign.  Impress upon them the urgency of the effort and provide them with a link to www.BreastCancerDeadline2020.org/Petition.

A Place to Heal

The Susan G. Komen Cincinnati Affiliate office is excited to announce the beginning of a new program for breast cancer survivors.  A Time to Heal is a national, holistic rehabilitation program designed to help women regain their physical, emotional and spiritual health.  This course is for survivors who have completed surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation for a first diagnosis of breast cancer.  Small groups will meet once a week for 12 weeks and discuss information related to nutrition, regaining strength, coping, relationships, femininity, happiness and intention.  Participants will learn relaxation, journaling and gentle exercise techniques. All sessions are led by trained facilitators.

Those interested in attending this program are asked to fill out an application and participate in a placement interview conducted by Program Director, Peggy Sullivan.  Classes will be held every Wednesday, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at A Place to Heal located inside the Susan G. Komen Cincinnati Affiliate office at Cincinnati Mills Mall in Forest Park, Ohio.  Class will not be held on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and classes end on December 7, 2011.  Regular participation is important to get the full benefit of this program. Participants need to be able to commit to attending at least 10 of the 12 sessions of A Time to Heal.  Cost of the 12 week class is free.  Applications are being taken now through August 27 for the fall program which begins on September 14, 2011.  Interested applicants may e-mail Peggy Sullivan at info@placetoheal.org, or contact Executive Director, Karyn Ganaway at 513-604-5383.
