Linda Croucher Receives Serenity Award

Congratulations to BCA member Linda Croucher who received the 2010 Serenity Award at the Cincinnati Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Power of a Promise event.

Linda CroucherLinda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995 at the age of 35 and is the 4th generation in her family to have breast cancer. She dedicates her time and energy to fight the disease because she wants to ensure that her two daughters will not be her family's 5th generation to face the disease.

Over the past 15 years, Linda has worked in many areas to make a difference. She currently serves on the BCA Board of Directors as Advocacy Chair and her duties involve communicating with a National Action Network about legislative issues and organizing the annual trip to Washington, DC for BCA members.

Linda also serves as the Ohio Field Coordinator for the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC). In this role, Linda contacts every federal representative and senator in Ohio, keeping them informed about breast health issues. She initiates the National Action Network to encourage advocates around the state to contact their legislators about these important issues. In 2009, Linda was honored by the NBCC and former President Bill Clinton for her work.

Linda has also volunteered for the Cincinnati Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Center (BCERC). This Center is investigating how the mammary gland develops and the environmental impacts that effect that development. There is a human study of young girls associated with this research that focuses on puberty. Linda helped to develop a coloring book for the girls, some as young as six years old, to explain the research study they would be involved in.

Linda has been an active volunteer for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Last year Linda served on the Community Needs Assessment committee. Linda also  raised $1000 for the 2009 Race for the Cure and in 2010, she served on the grant review committee.

Linda has been battling metastatic disease for over five years. While the cancer has spread to multiple parts of her body, Linda keeps on fighting.

We are so proud of Linda! This award recognizes Linda's accomplishments, talents and strengths. Linda needs your help to continue the important work that she is so focused on. Please join the Action Network and add your voice to eradicate breast cancer by contacting us at bcacincy@yahoo.com.
