This world is but a canvas to our imagination

HS Fieldtrip       HS-March

High School students went on a full-day field trip to the University of Louisville's campus recently to experience art, history and science.  The day began with a visit to the Hite Art Gallery, where students saw stunning figurative drawings and paintings by Harold Winslow, and intricate fiber pieces by Tom Lundberg. They also went to the Ekstrom Library to see black and white photos of the 37 flood that took place in Louisville. From there they went to the Clean Room lab, and then out to lunch. The field trip ended with a visit to the planetarium to see the show "Oasis in Space," which stressed the Earth's unique ability to inhabit life.  The seasons and climate were also explored as well as constellations in the winter night sky.

Check out the Walden Happenings Web Page for a plethora of HS photos:  Art Club, Key Club, Senior Night, and HS students celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday with K-2 buddies! More Photos The Art Club students made 30 decorative birds out of clay for the Walden Auction.   The birds were both table decorations and items for sale.  Also check out your students working with the children at Wayside Daycare (see heart-shaped picture) - it will warm your heart.

Congratulations to hockey goalie Jordan O'Reilly, whose team, EHS Eagles, had an amazing semi-finals game against defending state champions Trinity HS, narrowly missing an opportunity to go to the finals when the game went into overtime and then into a shoot-out.

Correction from last newsletter - Sean Dowling's Gold Key Award was earned from last year's Scholastic Art competition.  This editor was confused J since it appeared on this year's post card, but that too is quite an honor that Sean's picture from last year graced this year's postcard!

KYA News:  Congratulations to Simon Isham, who received the Outstanding Delegate Award and was picked to co-chair the Congressional program at next year's KYA.  Congratulations also to Michael Reikes, who got to argue his bill on the floor of the Kentucky Senate during last semester's KYA, to pass a law to force restaurants and food vendors to label caloric and fat contents of the food they sell on their menus.  It did not pass, but it was a very close vote.  On to KUNA next week.
