Walden High School students earn
AP Scholar Recognition Award

In 2009-2010, 23 of our high school students took 43 AP exams.  Walden School has received official notice from the College Board that ten (10) Walden High School students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams. Overall, our students scored a 3 or higher (on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the highest) on 91% of their exams! The national benchmark for a successful program is on average 50%.

To achieve recognition awards students must meet the following criteria:

AP Scholars with Distinction - by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on 5 or more of these exams.

AP Scholars with Honors - qualify by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

AP Scholars - qualify by completing three or more AP exams with scores of 3 or higher.

The College Board's Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. It is not unusual for Walden graduates to enter college with a full semester or two semesters of college credit.

The teachers receive training and must be certified to teach courses at this level.

This school year (2010-2011) Walden is offering nine AP Courses:
Spanish Language:  Pablo Briseno
Calculus BC:  Eric Chancellor
Physics B:  Eric Chancellor
English Literature and Composition:  Diana Daub
European History:  Bradley Kimbrough
Human Geography:  Bradley Kimbrough
Music Theory: Bradley Kimbrough
