Joanna Conover

 The Prep in College Prep

For years Walden has been able to boast that our students are accepted to the colleges of their choice and they amassed an amazing amount of scholarship moneys.  No doubt this is due to the caliber of student Walden attracts and the rigors curriculum that our dedicated faculty teaches.  However, these assets would remain diamonds in the rough except for the profound efforts of Ms. Conover to polish our students' achievements so their brilliance can be appreciated by college admissions directors.
Ms Conover has been with Walden for 21 years.  She hails from Columbia Kentucky and graduated from Western Kentucky University.   She doubts that most students know that she played field hockey in college and loves to golf and ski.  She says she enjoys Walden because of the diversity of the students.
As college counselor, Ms. Conover begins to meet with students and parents during the freshman year to start talking about the college process.  Then each year she becomes more involved as students mature, and concentrate their focus on the subjects in which they are strongest, and the universities that they might be interested in.  Ms Conover is firm a believer that "college is a match to be made not a prize to be won."  To this end, students at Walden receive personal, one-on-one college counseling from a veteran who knows them personally to insure the best possible match.
