Math Team!
Alex Baker Top in the District!
Walden's math team is off to a strong start. What is a math team . . well, it is a group of very smart students who several times a year go to Atherton High School after school and take math tests (really not a spectator sport). So far we have several students who are ranked very high. Ellie Comer and Cindy Lee are each 3rd in their grade level. Alex Baker is the top scoring Sr and top scorer in the district. December 1st will be the next competition!

The Academic World Quest Team and finishers are Charles Bowles (1st place), William Davis (2nd), Grey Sebree (3rd) and Nick Mason (4th). They will compete in the Louisville Academic World Quest on Feb. 27th at Bellarmine University. The World Affairs Council of Kentucky & Southern Indiana's Academic World Quest Competition is the name for the highly successful high school competition. Schools from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky and Southern Indiana compete to participate in the National World Quest Competition in Washington, DC. The competition is unique. There is no other national competition that covers the same subject area. A flagship program of the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA), World Quest is a team game testing competitors' knowledge of international affairs, geography, history, culture, flags, sports, current events, prominent newsmakers, economics, international organizations, and more.

Mid-Terms
What you need to know . . .
As we approach mid-term exams the anxiety level about your home may be going up. Here are the details that might help make exam week run a little smoother. Be sure your student knows which classes will be giving mid-terms and if they have any study guides that are available. Encourage your student to begin studying prior to the night before. The exams will be given in the classroom in which students normally have their classes, but according to the exam schedule (see calendar in this newsletter). Students MUST be on time for exams. These is 30% penalty for being late to Mid-terms and students late for the exam will not be given additional time. On days when students have exams they are welcome to study in the coffee shop, Gym Lobby (the Den) or the Thoreau Room in the Library. There will not be a cafe in the library this year, but refreshments will be available at the concession stand and in the coffee shop free of charge. There is NO LUNCH for High School students the week of midterms and HS students are expected to be off campus 30 minutes following their last exam of the day. Some AP courses may go beyond 1:00 and students are expected to leave campus upon the completion of those exams |
