You are cordially-invited to attend our Lower School Coffee... "THE CHANGING FACE OF PARENTING" Wednesday, November 4 8:00 a.m. Our generation of parents faces challenges previous generations could never even imagine. As the Internet and emerging technologies continue to dictate our culture, the only thing we can be sure of is that our children's world will be very different from ours. · How do we face the challenges of raising children to thrive and contribute to an unpredictable future? · The importance of establishing and upholding our own philosophies. · What issues do our kids face today that we never did? · How do we assure that our children are competitive and savvy yet still enjoy childhood? Please join us here at Walden School on Wednesday, November 4 at 8:00 a.m. for a discussion on these issues, how we are reacting as parents, and how our school's Mission works to address these concerns. No RSVP required. Please call if you have any questions.

Spotlight On... Miss. Epstein

Miss Epstein has just begun her third year of teaching third grade here at Walden. Together she and Mrs. O'Neil work very closely to provide our students with a successful blend of enthusiasm, confidence and strong academic support. So far... "I was born in Columbus, Ohio and moved to Louisville when I was two. I attended traditional public schools from kindergarten though high school. I was a good student and was often called the teacher's pet -which I didn't mind! I attended Xavier University and came to Walden School in 2007. I had six different majors in college and decided on teaching so I could work with children." Why Walden? "I knew I wanted to work in private schools. My mother subbed at Walden for many years, so I was familiar with the school. After graduation, I came back to Louisville and was very proud to be hired at a school as well thought of as Walden. I love the atmosphere and the faculty I work with." Favorites... "My favorite thing about my job is the students and the environment I provide. I love seeing faces light up each day because they can't wait to share a story. At this age, students are becoming more independent, and they really come into their own. It is amazing to watch the transformation take place right before my eyes." Secrets... "Something my students may not know about me is my love for tote bags. I have tons of purses, handbags and totes. I really need a separate room for all my bags. I also enjoy watching movies and trying new foods. One more thing they probably don't know is that I was really bad at math when I was in third grade. It was my least favorite subject, but I have learned to like it since I started teaching. If? "If I wasn't a teacher, I would still like to be helping others in some way. I would like to have been a doctor or nurse and have worked in pediatrics. Although I have always had a flair for the dramatic and am very enthusiastic, so I would have liked to see my name up in lights and have been an actress." Vacation... This summer I took three courses which continued my understanding of child motivation, classroom assessment and multicultural education. I came back this year with an enlightened view of what I do and who I teach.
