Dear Readers,

We've gone all spooky here at Cake Craft World and my hands seem to be constantly dyed orange or black with all the food colouring needed for the Halloween season.  I must admit it did seem strange to be designing Halloween cakes in the bright sunshine that we have experienced here in the South of England.  My pumpkins are coming along nicely in the garden and I hope to be able to win a prize with one of them at the local horticultural show this year!  I will be letting you know the winner of the lucky star competition that we ran on our sister site www.cakecraftshop.co.uk  and I will also announce the total money raised at our ever popular Macmillan coffee morning.  We are rushed off our feet with preparations for Cake International exhibition at the NEC Birmingham in November.  Our stand is going to look fantastic of course so please come and visit us on stand C34 where we will be demonstrating and offering some amazing new products and also some exclusives.  We are pleased to announce the arrival of a great new range of tools and equipment from Little Venice Cake Company.  The packaging is so lovely and Mich Turner has created some really innovative new tools.  Next month will be our run up to Christmas newsletter edition so make sure you don't miss it!  Until then, I am going back to my workshop to finish off my 5 tier Christmas cake for the show....

Happy Baking

Louise Signature

A Gory Story

cut finger

Once upon a time there was a sugarpaste finger that got in the way of a nasty knife who came along and chopped the top of the finger off and there was sugar blood everywhere!  Red sugarpaste and black cupcake cases are available.

Investment pieces

lip cutter

Everyone has investment items of clothing in their wardrobe that can be thrown on for any occasion.  These lip and gingerbread cutters are this season's cake decorating investment pieces.

Buy the lip cutter now and create this almost comical looking set of fangs. Next year I will be showing you something completely different to make with it for Valentines Day.

skeleton

Likewise, the gingerbread cutter can be used to make this simple scary skeleton and then be brought out again at Christmas to make cute santas.

Cake Craft World Exclusives

ccw cutters

We have designed our own Halloween cutters this year for you all to try.  You wont find them anywhere else and the witches hat makes a great sorting hat for a Harry Potter themed party.

Click here for ghost, pumpkin and witches hat cutters.

Cupcakes that go bump in the night

scream cutter

Another exclusive from Cake Craft World is this scary face cutter.  By adding some simple features it becomes the face from the iconic 'Scary Movies'.  The other cupcake couldn't be simpler, just flatten balls of black and white sugarpaste on to the top and paint the veins on with red paste colour.

One for the little monsters

This cupcake is so simple to make that the children can do it.  Push white sugarpaste into the skeleton mould and when dry spray lightly with black edible lustre spray.  Attach our new candy eyeballs and finish off by painting on the nose and teeth features with a thin paintbrush and black paste colour.  Attach to the top of a cupcake covered in black sugarpaste and surround with Halloween bone sprinkles.

They are watching you!

Have you seen our new candy eyeballs?  Well they have certainly seen you!  There are 56 googly eyes in this pack and they can be used on absolutely anything to give some really funny expressions.  I have put them on a little alien here which is actually our snowman cutter turned upside down!

 All Wrapped Up

We have some beautiful ribbons for Halloween, click here for the full range.  To inject a little glamour into the season, try displaying your cupcakes in these gorgeous black silk square boxes.

 Competitions and Coffee Mornings

We had an overwhelming response to our lucky star competition launched on our sister site www.cakecraftshop.co.uk.  The lucky winner of the competition is

Jodie from Gillingham!

Congratulations Jodie,

we will be in touch with you very soon.

Our Macmillan coffee morning was a great success, raising over £650 in just a few hours!  We had literally dozens of cakes donated to us and we were also offering a discount of 10% on all sales on the morning.  I did a demonstration with the amazing product cocoform, showing all the fantastic things you can do with this new chocolate medium. All in all, a great morning and I can't wait until the next one.

Terrifying Tins

These pans are really effective and can be decorated in so many funky ways.  For the pumpkin I covered the cake with orange sugarpaste and then put the pan back on top to emboss the features into the top of the sugarpaste.  I then painted in the black features with food colour paste and used green sugarpaste to create the stalk and curly hair.  To get a fantasy feel to your pumpkin, spray the greenery with green lustre spray.

I decided to turn this great skull pan into a mummy by rolling out white sugarpaste, cutting it into long strips and laying them across the cake in no particular order.  Don't forget to make the scary eyes first so that they can poke through the bandages and for a really authentic effect, brush the bandges with brown and black dusting tints.  Finish off with these absolutely disgusting large black plastic spiders.

Crunchy Ghouls

These little fellas were made with this set of cool ghost cutters.  I think they are very cute.

Halloween Alien Snowmen ?!

I love these little critters but I cannot take the credit.  Our Managing Director was playing around with our new snowman cutter and realised that if you turn it upside down, it makes the best alien ever!  Use these monster/alien cupcake cases to make them really feel at home.

and much much more!

I hope you like my seasonal display cake.  I have tried to incorporate as many of our products as I can and I think the effect is quite 'spellbounding'.  For all of our amazing Halloween products please visit our Halloween section on both websites by clicking here and here!

Louise's Top Tip

The terrifying bats flying around the top of my Halloween cake are, believe it or not, serene beautiful doves really!  I thought very hard how to create these flying beasties and then came up with a plan.  I used the great set of 3 dove cutters with black florist paste instead of white.  I turned them upside down so that the body turned into a hump, cut a slit into the fantail to turn it into bat ears and the dove head became the tail of the bat....easy peasy, give it a try.

I'm all spooked out this month, I hope you have enjoyed the newsletter and don't forget to visit our new sister site, www.cakecraftshop.co.uk and keep your cake creations coming in at louise@cakecraftworld.com.  I'm off to create some delights for Cake International in Birmingham, please don't forget to come and say hello whilst I'm demonstrating.  Next month is Christmas crazy, I can't wait.

Until next month, happy baking x
