*** Top Tip ***
You know when you have used icing sugar to roll out dark sugarpaste colours and cannot seem to get rid of the ghostly shade of white from your sugarpaste?
Try our edible glaze spray,
it rids your cake of all
traces of icing sugar and leaves your cake with a
really professional sheen.
Let me know what
you think.
The can also lasts for ages!

Hello Readers,
Firstly, welcome to 2011 everyone. hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and are now ready to tackle the serious topic of 'LOVE'. Our special valentine edition will be showing you lots of ideas and tips for making some really lovely little gifts to show those people closest to you just how much you care.
I had a call last week from the BBC with some really exciting news. We have been asked to introduce all our wonderful readers to this year's BBC Great Cake Bake! They are busy trying to gather all potential contestants for the show this year. I watched the last series of this show and thought it was absolutely amazing. If I wasn't in the profession I would be definitely applying! Please read up on all the information and if you do decide to apply, don't forget to let us know.
One of our cakes will be on the front cover of Wedding Cakes magazine - Issue 8. We were asked to create a fresh, modern wedding cake for this annual magazine and we also have a step by step feature inside to show how to make the cake. We had great fun here in the kitchen designing the cake and we are all very proud of the result.
I am also visiting a large bakery brand on Friday to advise them on designs for royal wedding cupcakes so next month I will let you know all about it!
I hope you all have a lovely Valentine's Day and are well and truly spoilt.
Until next month, happy baking.

It is very easy to make two tone buttercream swirls. Colour some buttercream with red food colouring and spoon into the side of a piping bag fitted with a 1M tube. Spoon some uncoloured buttercream into the other side, twist the piping bag top together and 'hey presto' two tone buttercream! |
These cute little cupcakes can be made by your little ones for their friends or by adults who want to get that special message across like my 'sexy beast' cupcake above!
These delightful heart cupcake cases are great for
Valentine's Day but the alphabet sprinkles can be used for any occasion. Top it off with a cute icing dog if there's room. |
Who said red and pink don't work together? I love this cupcake.
It is so sweet and innocent, yet very naughty on the inside!
I used the Wilton filling tube to fill this little delight with
homemade strawberry jam so that when my loved one
bites into it, he will get a gooey treat!
The buttercream is coloured red and piped on randomly
with a star tube and then crowned with lovely pink wafer roses.
To keep the look of this cupcake very pretty,
I finished it off with a delicate bow made from our
sheer pink ribbon range. |
Now this little devil is for the cheeky valentine minx!
A cupcake ladened with gorgeous thick buttercream and
studded with silver dragees has the real wow factor.
If you would like to go further, attach a bow made with our showstopping glitter dot ribbon. |
I love this cupcake, in fact it's my favourite of this year so far. So simple to make, just level off your cupcake with a knife (eat the excess that has been cut off) and choose the correct size of fluted pastry cutter to fit the top of your cake. These new valentine stencils are superb. Just lightly dampen the top of the sugarpaste and lay one of the designs onto the surface. I have used 'hundreds and thousands' to fill the stencil in. Wait a few seconds and then lift off, gently. Apparently 'hundreds and thousands' is not their official name, it is nonpareils, so this is what you will find them under on our website! I think the finished effect is really lovely. These stencils can also be used for sprinkling cocoa over on the top of your favourite frothy drink too!

The set, which is pictured below, includes a double heart, plain heart and crimped heart, heart with arrow, flying dove and a cupid cutter.
